Volleyball Tip: Perfecting your Serve Receive Passing in Beach Volleyball

Huntington Beach Tip

Executing a good pass is extremely important to point scoring in beach volleyball. While passing may seem like a skill only taught to beginners, it is important to advanced volleyball players to continuously practice their fundamentals. Check out some volleyball tips below that will help develop your beach passing skills and elevate your game. Come join us this summer 2022 to practice your beach volleyball skills at one of our Beach Volleyball Camps!

Tip #1: Have a go-to platform pass- The goal is to create a flat platform for the ball to land on for the best success of a good pass. You want the ball to land somewhere between your wrist and elbow but not on your hands or wrists to avoid losing control of the ball. Once the serve from your opponent is made, be prepared to extend your arms, place your hands together, and elbows rolled up to expose your forearms. Repetition is key here, so you'll want to get very familiar with your style of platform.

Tip #2: Body positioning- If you want to achieve the most consistent results, it is best to practice midline passing. This technique is meant for you to keep your body centered behind the volleyball and will require a lot of footwork to get into position. As you advance in beach volleyball, passing from angles becomes more realistic and requires you to have a solid platform and angle your arms in the direction you want your pass to go.

Tip #3: Determining Force- On a serve receive pass, things tend to get tricky when determining how much force you want to put into the ball depending on the type of serve. If it is a top-spin serve, the best thing you can do is get a good platform under it, and the ball will do the rest. However, if it is a floating serve, you will need to pay more attention to the ball as these can be very unpredictable and require more skill to make an effective pass.
