GOLF TIP: 4 COURSE MANAGEMENT TIPS TO LOWER YOUR SCORE
Course management is the approach you take to make better on-course decisions that fit best with your playing style. It is knowing which clubs to use, which shots to take, and when to play to your strengths. Golfers with great course management have learned to play aggressively when the time comes and more cautiously when need be. Essentially, you are strategically managing your way around the course with the result of lowering your score, hence the term course management. Play safe
Playing safe is the key to great course management. Playing safe does not mean shortening your swing and minimizing all risks. Rather it means playing shots that you can execute almost 10/10 times. Overall, you need to understand your playing style and know when a shot is too risky or unlikely to happen.
Knowing your yardages
Can you give an accurate estimate of your yardages? Although range finders may be helpful, only you can know your specific yardages for each club.
Spend some time at the driving range and record your average yardages for each club. After dialing in on your yardages, you’ll have a better estimate of the distance you can achieve while on the course.
Track your data (Learn from your mistakes)
Do you normally tend to slice or hook the ball from the tee box? Do your iron shots miss right or left? Do you tend to miss putts long or short?
Track your data. By learning from your mistakes, you can minimize the amount of risk you take and overall play to the best of your ability.
“Go-to” club
Everyone has a club that they absolutely love. The “Go-to” club. Find what club this is for you and use it to your full advantage. Some golfers choose long irons as their go-to club because they can hit plenty of different shots with them. Depending on the hole, they can use it to hit off the tee box or even hit two shots on a par 5 with a chance at birdie.
Play with the cubs that you are most confident in because your go-to club or clubs will help you in many tough situations.
