John Abdou, former UCSB, Bucknell and USA National Team coach, and College Coaches from around the country have partnered in offering a Nike 5meter Water Polo Showcase this coming June.
The Chicago Water Polo Showcase provides high school aged athletes looking to play water polo at the collegiate level the opportunity to learn from our country's best coaches. Athletes will also be given the opportunity to learn about the college recruiting process in a classroom setting and be evaluated by a diverse group of college coaches; including Divisions 1, 2, and 3. Athletes will get direct feedback and instruction on what it takes to play at the next level in college. Don't miss out on this great opportunity!!

John Abdou, a veteran collegiate and national team coach, will be directing camp this summer. Abdou was the associate head coach of the UCSB men's water polo team. Abdou came to UCSB after serving as the head men's and women's water polo coach at Bucknell.
Abdou, a 2001 graduate of UC Irvine, spent six years as a member of the Bison men's and women's water polo coaching staffs, serving as an assistant coach, associate head coach, interim head coach and head coach over that span.Read Full Bio
Abdou got his start in coaching when he was the head assistant boys' water polo coach as his alma mater, Temple City High School in Temple City, Calif., in 1998. As a player at Temple City, Abdou earned all-league and team MVP honors while serving as team captain.
He earned his Master's Degree in Education from Bucknell University in May 2012.
Felix Mercardo - Brown
Felix Mercado is the Brown men's and women's water polo coach. Mercado spent the two seasons prior to coming to Brown at the helm of the MIT men's varsity and women's club teams after one year as an assistant. In 2013, Mercado led the men's water polo team to its third straight 20-plus win season that culminated in a 15-9 victory over Harvard to earn fifth place at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Eastern Championships. Mercado mentored two CWPA Northern Division First Team picks in senior James McNamara (Encino, Calif.) and junior Henry Fox (Mercer Island, Wash.).
John McBride - Bucknell
John McBride, who served as an assistant coach at Brown the previous seven years, was named the head men’s and women’s water polo coach at Bucknell on May 18, 2011. McBride, a 1992 graduate of Rhode Island who was a four-year starter in goal as a member of the water polo program, also has an extensive background with the U.S. National Team, serving as head coach of the men’s Northeast Zone Olympic Development Team since 2009.
Just two-and-one-half years into his Bucknell tenure, McBride has already guided the Bison programs for five seasons and been a part of 69 victories. He has led the men’s team to three consecutive above-.500 records, a 2012 Southern Championships title and the program’s first Eastern Championship title game appearance in nearly 20 years. The men have finished above .500 seven times in the last eight years and have had 10 consecutive top-five finishes at Easterns. The women’s squad has collected 23 victories the last two springs while playing extremely challenging schedules that have featured 23 ranked foes, including 14 in 2012.
Gregg Emde - Lindenwood University
Gregg Emde has been named the new head coach of both the men’s and women’s water polo teams at Lindenwood University. The Ballwin, Mo. resident brings over 20-years of playing and coaching experience to the position.
Emde will be joined on the coaching staff by Toni Storic, who played for the Lindenwood men’s water polo team for four years, earning First Team All-Conference honors in the Missouri Valley Division in 2013. Storic will serve as an assistant while pursuing an internship through the university.
Emde takes over a men's program that finished second at the 2013 Men's National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by the University of California-San Diego, while the women’s program that took seventh at the 2014 Women's National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by The Ohio State University at the SPIRE Institute.
Marcelo Leonardi - Michigan
Dr. Marcelo Leonardi is in his first season as head coach for the Michigan women's water polo team. Leonardi was introduced as the new coach on May 30, 2014, becoming the third coach in U-M history.
Dr. Leonardi took over the Michigan women's water polo program after spending the past five seasons as the women's water polo coach at California State University in Northridge. This past season, he guided the Matadors to a second-place finish in the regular-season Big West Conference standings and a runner-up showing at the conference championship. CSUN compiled a 23-9 overall record on the year and ranked as high as No. 9 in the CWPA national polls.
Dr. Leonardi earned a bachelor of arts in biology and Spanish from Whittier College (Calf.) in 1998. He added a Master's degree in education from Whittier in 2001 and a single-subject teaching credential in biology and life sciences from the institution in 2003. As a collegiate player, Dr. Leonardi was a three-year starter and letterman in water polo at Whittier (1994-96).
Dr. Leonardi added a doctorate degree in educational leadership from Azusa Pacific University in 2011.
Josh Dunn - Monmouth College
Josh Dunn is currently the Head Coach for Men and Women's water polo and the first water polo coach in the history of Monmouth College. The team’s inaugural coach has plenty of water polo experience, competing as a member of the school’s national champion club team in 2012. In addition to playing the sport throughout his college and high school career, Dunn was also a record-setting swimmer as a four-year member of the Fighting Scots swim team. Dunn led the Fighting Scots in their first ever Varsity season for both Men and Women and are currently the only Varsity Water Polo program in the state of Illinois.
Zac Koerner - University of the Pacific
Zac Koerner is currently the Assistant coach for Mens and Womens water polo at the University of the Pacific. Last year he helped to lead the Pacific Tigers Mens team to a number one national ranking and the NCAA Championship game. He has also served on several United States National team staffs over the last five years including as the Head Coach of the Youth National Team last year where he lead the team to a Silver medal at the Youth Pan American Championships in Buenos Aires Argentina.
Jay O'Neil - Washington and Jefferson
Jeremiah O'Neil completed his second season as the head women's water polo coach in 2013 after leading the men's squad for the first time during the fall of 2012.
O'Neil was named 2012 CWPA Coach of the Year after leading the Presidents' women to a school record 11 victories. He aided in the development of four all-confernence athletes, including first-teamer Sarah Cull '12.
During his second season with the women's team, Rachel Clauss '16 became the second-straight President to earn CWPA Rookie of the Year under O'Neil's guidance. W&J tied the school record for victories with 11 for the second consecutive season.
O’Neil, a 1997 graduate of Bucknell University, has previously coached at Bucknell and Salem International, while also spending time as a NCAA water polo official. He played varsity water polo at Bucknell from 1993-97.
