Camp Director Awvee Storey
Awvee Storey is a former professional basketball player turned player development coach. Storey played in the NBA and abroad for 11 years. He recently finished his second WNBA finals appearance in the 2022 season with Connecticut Sun as the Director of Player Development. He was also an assistant coach in the NBA G-league for the Capital City Go-Go inaugural year and Maine Celtics 2021 season.View Awvee's Bio ⟩
Prior to his time in the front office and side-line, Storey attended Arizona State University as a student athlete. After graduating, he began playing basketball abroad and then progressed to the NBA for four seasons (Wizards, Nets, and Bucks). Since that time, Storey has taken an unusual career path for a former NBA player. As the Director of Player Development for the Sun, his experience as a former player helped him understand what players needed off the court. He has taken a holistic approach to coaching with consideration for players' overall well-being. At the professional level, he brought in yoga and other mindfulness experiences to players. In addition to his experience with professional basketball, Storey is entering his 10th year as a director for Nike Basketball youth camps.
"Working with kids has been a long-time passion of mine. During my time as a coach, I have worked with players at all ages and skill levels. My perspective as a former player will allow me to engage with your child in a very relatable way. I hope to bring the holistic approach I utilized in professional basketball to my Nike camps. I will incorporate different yoga poses during our morning and end of session every day from a licensed trainer. Throughout camp week, this will allow your child to work on being as present as possible in all things. I want your child to not only have a great experience learning new basketball skills on the court, and meeting new friends, but also to work on the entire player, and that includes his or her overall well-being."
Co-Director Jennifer Lewis
Sports has always been the focal point of my life ever since elementary school. As a coach for over 13 years on the collegiate and high school level in track and basketball I have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in imparting skills and values to my athletes.View Jennifer's Bio ⟩
I also served as being an Assistant Sports Camp Director for ESF Camps for 9 years. Additionally, my background playing multiple sports while growing up has helped me understand the importance of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Moreover, teaching elementary school for 9 years has further honed my communication and leadership skills, allowing me to effectively connect with young minds and guide them towards finding their passion and potential.
For the last 4 years I have been working as a Nike Youth Basketball coach and it has allowed me to develop my coaching skills and to positively impact the lives of many young athletes. Through teaching fundamentals, facilitating teamwork, and instilling a passion for the game, I witnessed children grow in their confidence and athletic ability. It was an immensely rewarding experience that taught me a lot about leadership, accountability, and mentorship.
I am a firm believer that coaching is not just about winning; it's also about instilling a sense of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance in the athletes. It's a privilege to be a part of molding future athletes and leaders.
