Join Brandon Johnson and Tyler Henderson in Houston, Texas this summer for a week full of unforgettable activities that are designed to make you better. What an exciting opportunity to learn from some of the best coaches and trainers in the game, as Nike and AWAKE Basketball partner up to host one of the biggest basketball camps of the summer in one of the newest gym locations in the city, Playground-Houston.

The Complete Skills Camp is committed to developing players of all abilities. Little details make big things happen which is why we focus on teaching core fundamental basketball skills: Shooting, dribbling, defending, rebounding, and passing, while enhancing the player’s mental aspect of the game.

    Brandon would earn a NCAA Division I scholarship to The University of San Diego (USD). There he would make his mark in history as the only Men’s basketball player in the West Coast Conference ever to leave a school as the All-Time Leader in both scoring and assists.

    Brandon received numerous other accolades while at USD: Freshman All-American,1st Team All-WCC, WCC Tournament MVP, WCC Player of the month. Years of commitment and hard work would finally pay off when Brandon was selected to compete in the NBA, playing for the Phoenix Suns Summer League and Pre-season with the Washington Wizards. Brandon would play professional basketball overseas for 8 years in Europe, South America, and China.

    When the ball stopped bouncing Brandon was able to establish himself as a Motivational Speaker and a Sports Betting Awareness Ambassador (SBAA), visiting Universities, Schools, and Organizations across the United States. In 2020, Brandon took an incredible leap of faith and launched his nonprofit organization called, ‘No Script’, formalizing his efforts regarding youth advocacy and life-skills education through his AWAKE (Actively Working Acquiring Knowledge

    Everyday) Program. This led to the creation of AWAKE Basketball and a partnership with Playground-Houston. With purpose in hand, Brandon is determined to utilize his journey to inspire others; life has “No Script”, but effort, perseverance, and faith turns commitment into visible success. Combine that with the amazing support system of Sam Ibrahim, Jamie Coote and Playground-Global the possibilities of impact are limitless.

    Experience is the teacher of all things, and one needs experience to gain wisdom. Jerome Robinson has spent years gaining experience and wisdom, both as a player and coach.

    Jerome found his way to the basketball court following behind his older brother. The Toronto native was a standout player in high school, college and professionally. The 6-foot-4 guard was chosen as one of the top five players in Ontario as a high school senior at Westwood Secondary School.

    Jerome played collegiate basketball at Bradley University and was named MVC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection as a senior averaging 17 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists. After Graduating in 2001 with a degree in elementary education, Jerome would go on to play 7 years professionally in France, Belgium and Austria. He earned all-league honors and was named the All-Austrian Bundesliga Defensive Player of the Year twice in his career. He also was a member of the Canadian National Team for three years and was selected to represent Canada in the World University Games in 1999.

    Jerome boasts a successful NCAA Division I coaching career having worked at Bradley U, Eastern Michigan, St Bonaventure, and University of New Mexico. Continuing his pursuit of wisdom, Jerome would earn a master’s degree, holds an NBA agent certificate and is a certified Real Estate Agent.

    You cannot create experience. You must undergo it and Cartier Martin has been doing just that regarding the game of basketball. Cartier played 8 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has more than 6 years of experience playing professional basketball in Europe, Italy, China, and the NBA Development League.

    Cartier also boasts a successful 4-year career at Kansas State University, becoming one of the top All-Time Scoring Leaders in school history and earning Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year honors in 2007. Currently, Cartier is dedicated to educating young athletes through his experience. Teaching them the importance and impact of a healthy lifestyle through fitness and nutrition.

    At an early age, Coach Ken fell in love with the game of basketball. His commitment to getting better every day created the opportunity to play at the collegiate level earning a NCAA Division I scholarship to Columbus State University.

    After two years, Ken decided Southern Arkansas University was a better fit and that decision ended up paying off. While at SAU, Ken received several honors, GSC All-Conference, Conference Leader in Assist, and holds school records for most assists in a single game and season. His constant pursuit of excellence created the opportunity to play professional basketball in Kosovo, Austria, Mexico and the American Basketball Association (ABA). Ken has over 15 years of experience coaching and training male and female athletes, instilling in them that skill comes from consistent and deliberate practice.

    Nothing great is ever achieved without tremendous leadership, which is why AWAKE Basketball is extremely proud of our Leadership Team. The staff at AWAKE utilizes the method teach by “Experience Sharing”, as every leader has competed on the high school level, several boast successful Division I careers as well as having played professional basketball. There is no substitute for experience.

Daily Hours: MON-THURS 9AM-4PM

Morning Half Day Camper Hours:
Check-in: Monday at 8:30am
Check-out: Thursday at 11:30am
Meals: Not provided. Please eat prior to arrival.

Afternoon Half Day Camper Hours:
Check-in: Monday at 12:30pm
Check-out: Thursday at 3:30pm

POST-CAMP EXTRA TRAINING

In the Post-Camp Extra Training, work with Brandon Johnson and the camp staff to further improve your game and enhance your skills. The Post-Camp Extra Training will run Monday-Thursday, from 4pm-5pm, and be $90 (for all 4 days). *Only available for Full Day and Afternoon Half Day campers.

BASKETBALLS

Nike Versa Tack Basketballs can be purchased during registration for $30. Players can choose between a size 6 (28.5", standard girls) or size 7 (29.5", standard boys) ball, which will be passed out on the last day of camp. Please note that it is not required to bring a basketball to camp as they are provided by the staff for camp instruction.

If there are any imperative changes prior to camp start, registered campers will be notified via email and this webpage will be updated!

PACKING LIST

Below is a suggested list of clothes, equipment, and personal items. US Sports Camps is NOT responsible for lost or stolen articles or money.

CAMPER EVALUATION

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week. In addition, campers will be evaluated and then split up into smaller groups according to age and ability.

MEDICAL PROTOCOL

Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is not provided by the camp to or from any airports. If you are flying to or from camp, we recommend using an airport shuttle service. Please schedule flights as close as you can to the check-in times on the first day and check-out times on the last day.
