  • THANKS TO MATT, STAFF AND TCNJ

My stepson had never been to an overnight camp and is usually a pretty quiet kid. The last day of camp, he called me at work to tell me all about it. It was the most excitement he'd shown about anything in awhile and I couldn't have been more pleased. He had a pack of new friends before the end of the first night and hasn't had one negative thing to say. Also, I really appreciated the report card he brought home, so he knows what to work on in the coming months. That phone call alone made the whole camp worth every cent and there's no doubt he'll be back next year. Thanks to Matt, and staff.

  • The highlight of the camp experience was the overall connection that the players made with one another. It was easy to socialize and create new connections and make new friends, and it felt like everyone there belonged because we were all striving to reach one goal; to get better at basketball. Players and staff ensured that everyone reached that goal in one way or another,
  • My son was extremely happy about the drills and really enjoyed the meals!

Camp Coaches

  • Matt Goldsmith

    Matt Goldsmith

    Camp Director

Matt Goldsmith has spent the last seven seasons at the helm of the TCNJ men's basketball program. During that time, he has piloted the Lions to over 100 victories and an NJAC championship in 2020, when TCNJ advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

    Matt Goldsmith

    Matt Goldsmith

    Camp Director

Goldsmith led TCNJ to a 7-1 record in the 2021 season. The Lions advanced to the NJAC semifinals by defeating Kean in the quarterfinals. That marked the fifth semifinal appearance in the six years that Goldsmith has been at the helm of the program. During that season, Goldsmith coached Travis Jocelyn to D3hoops.com Third Team All-America honors. Jocelyn was also named NJAC Pony Wilson Player of the Year, which marked the second season in a row TCNJ has earned that honor. Randall Walko took home that recognition after the 2019-20 season.

Goldsmith led the Lions to a remarkable 2019-20 campaign. TCNJ posted a record of 20-9 and captured its first New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship since the 1997-98 season. The Lions also made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since the '97-'98 season and defeated Marietta in the first round for the program's first tournament victory since 1988-89. The 20 wins marked the highest single-season total since '88-'89. Goldsmith coached Randall Walko to NABC First Team All-America honors.

Goldsmith arrived at The College of New Jersey in March of 2015, and he has compiled a record of 93-50 in his first six seasons. Goldsmith has led the Lions to the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs in each season. He has coached 13 All-New Jersey Athletic Conference performers with eight earning First-Team honors. Goldsmith earned NJAC John K. Adams Coach of the Year honors in 2017-18.

Goldsmith arrived from Amherst College, where he was an assistant coach for three seasons and a member of the Jeffs' national championship team in 2007. Goldsmith returned to his home state of New Jersey, where he was a resident of Morristown and graduate of Delbarton High School. He is also the founder of GBA and is a camp clinician during the summer months.

    Matt Goldsmith

Goldsmith enjoyed tremendous success with the Amherst program as an assistant coach and also during his playing career. In his first season on the coaching staff in 2012-13, Goldsmith helped guide Amherst to a 30-2 record and the second national title in program history. The following season, the Jeffs made their fifth appearance in the Final Four and boasted a season mark of 27-4.

In addition to his success with the Jeffs, Goldsmith spent time as a volunteer assistant coach for USA Basketball during the past two summers. In June 2013, he assisted the Men's 2013 FIBA World Champion USA Under-19 National Team. This past summer he helped with individual workouts during practice, while volunteering with the 2014 Men's National Team that captured the gold medal. During those coaching experiences, Goldsmith was able to glean valuable experience and wisdom from elite coaching minds such as Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim, Billy Donovan, Tom Thibodeau and Monty Williams.

  • Evan elberg

    Evan Elberg

    Head Coach

Evan Elberg returned to TCNJ as head coach of the men’s basketball program on July 31, 2025.

    Evan elberg

    Evan Elberg

    Head Coach

The appointment was a homecoming for Elberg, who was an assistant coach under Goldsmith at TCNJ from 2015-2019 and was instrumental in recruiting some of the program’s all-time greats who went on to lead the Lions to NJAC championship glory in 2020.

Elberg returns to Ewing after a one-year stint as director of basketball operations under head coach Bashir Mason at Division I Saint Peter’s University. He directed all day-to-day operations for the Peacocks, including coordinating team travel, meals, and logistics in addition to organizing official visits and creating a recruiting database. Elberg also facilitated the team’s film breakdown, led budget tracking and expense reporting, and oversaw a team of five student managers.

Elberg cut his teeth in Packer Hall, serving as assistant coach for a TCNJ program that went 66-40 overall and made the NJAC Tournament in each of his four seasons. Goldsmith’s group was named NJAC Coaching Staff of the Year in 2018, and Elberg successfully helped to land a pair of program-changers in Randy Walko ‘20 and Travis Jocelyn ‘21, who went on to power the Lions to the conference championship in 2020. Both became All-Americans and NJAC Player of the Year selections, and each is still plying his trade overseas - Walko with the Taishin Dreamers in Taiwan and Jocelyn with the Chemnitz Niners in Germany.

Elberg wore many hats during his TCNJ tenure. He directed the program’s first Elite Prospect Camp and High School Shootout, created the ‘Lions Leading Lions’ program on campus, served as a liaison between the Athletic Department and Student Affairs leadership, and organized a weekly volunteer program in the offseason at the Trenton Soup Kitchen. He also worked closely with alums and donors, acquiring a Shoot-A-Way machine to enhance player development as well as a venue sponsor from a local business.

Evan’s values align perfectly with TCNJ and the athletic department. He cares deeply about the college, the men’s basketball program, the alumni, and the student-athletes as much as anyone. I cannot wait to cheer on the Lions next year!”

Between his stops in Ewing and Jersey City, Elberg spent five impactful years as an assistant coach at Gettysburg, where he played a pivotal role in the program’s swift rise back to the top of the Centennial Conference ranks. The 2021-22 campaign saw the Bullets achieve their first conference playoff appearance and winning season in six years, and the orange and blue followed with back-to-back playoff berths in 2023 and 2024, the latter of which resulted in the first Centennial Conference regular-season crown in the program’s 123-year history.

With Elberg as defensive coordinator, Gettysburg led the highly competitive Centennial Conference in scoring defense, field-goal percentage defense, 3-point percentage defense, and blocked shots; the Bullets were top-20 nationally in blocks per game (2nd), assists allowed per game (3rd), 3-point percentage defense (4th), scoring defense (12th), and field-goal percentage defense (18th). Elberg was the lead recruiter for Jordan Stafford, the 2025 CC Defensive Player of the Year and 2024 Player of the Year, as well as All-CC first team selection Carl Schaller.

Elberg was a four-year letter winner at Drew, where he served as team captain in 2013 and graduated with a degree in business studies. He played in 65 games for the Rangers, including seven starts, and the best game of his career ironically came at Packer Hall - a 17-point outburst as a freshman on January 11, 2010.

He started his coaching career as an assistant with his alma mater, spending the 2013-14 season with the Rangers and taking an assistant position at Washington College (Md.) for a year before his first stint at TCNJ.

A mainstay on the recruiting trails and AAU circuit, Elberg was the head coach of the Jersey Force 17U team on the HGSL Hoop Group Circuit, one of the top independent AAU programs in the country. In the past four years, Elberg coached one NBA player, 10 Division I commits, and 11 Division III commits. He has also worked as a coach at several Division I elite camps as well as the Jay Bilas Coach Development Camp.

WHAT FAMILIES SAY ABOUT Nike Boys Basketball Camp The Pennington School
