The 2017-18 season was the first with him at the helm after serving four years as the assistant coach for the men's team. In his first season as head coach, Johnson led his team to a 13-14 overall record, as well as a 6-8 conference record, as the Vikings finished third overall in the SAA tournament. Behind Johnson, Berry also rounded out the year with two all-conference honorees and an upset victory over top-ranked Oglethorpe University on senior night.
