Mark Morefield became the ninth head coach in UMHB women's basketball history in April of 2015. He joined the Cru after a long and successful stint as a Division I men's basketball assistant coach. Morefield guided the Cru women to the 2022 regular-season American Southwest Conference title and the program’s third appearance in the NCAA Division III Sectionals. The Cru went 24-5 last season with an 18-1 mark in conference play. Morefield had guided the Cru to seven consecutive ASC tournament berths and a trio of NCAA postseason appearances. UMHB made history during the 2018-19 season with the ASC West Division title and first appearance in NCAA postseason action. The Cru went on to win back-to-back ASC titles in 2020 and 2021, advancing to the Sectional round of the NCAA Division III tournament in both of those seasons.

With the Bears, Morefield served as the team’s recruiting coordinator, oversaw the offense, supervised individual workouts and scouting. Morefield moved to Baylor after spending five years as an assistant coach at Valparaiso University under Homer and Scott Drew. The Crusaders posted four 20-win seasons in that time and made three NCAA Tournaments appearances. He spent four years as a student assistant at Valparaiso as the Crusaders recorded at least 20 wins in each of those seasons, made three NCAA Tournament appearances and advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2008. Morefield has one year of professional experience as an assistant coach with the Texas Legends of the NBDL and was also a draft consultant for the NBA’s New Orleans Hornets in 2012.
