Choose either the shooting camp, complete skills camp, or both to elevate your game, make new friends, and have fun at this top Nike Girls Basketball Camp in Lexington, KY!

The Shooting Camp emphasizes technique, footwork, shooting drills, shooting off the dribble, shooting off the pass, shooting games, free throw shooting, and post/perimeter shooting.

The Complete Skills Camp helps players of all abilities develop athletically, refine fundamental basketball skills and enhance their skill set at the post, wing or guard position.

    Head Coach

    Hannah Varel has been named the new Head Coach of Transylvania Women's Basketball. Varel becomes the 8th Women's Basketball Head Coach at Transylvania since 1968.

    Varel was a key factor in Transylvania Women's Basketball's recent national success. Since joining the Pioneers as an assistant in 2020, Varel has helped lead the Pioneers to their 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championships and 3 straight undefeated regular seasons, 3 consecutive Elite Eights, back-to-back NCAA Final Four appearances, and a National Championship in 2023 with a perfect 33-0 record. From November 18th, 2022 to March 14th, 2024, Transylvania Women's Basketball won 64 consecutive games, the third longest streak of all time in NCAA DIII Women's Basketball.

    Since joining Transylvania in 2020, Varel has helped lead Transy to a 105-8 record.

    In 2023, Varel was a Thirty Under Thirty Honoree. The WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches aged 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement. The Pioneers finished 33-0 and won the school's first ever National Championship.

    Before the 2023-2024 season, Varel was promoted to Associate Head Coach by Juli Fulks.

    In 2024, Varel was named the WBCA DIII Assistant Coach of the Year. The WBCA Assistant Coach of the Year is presented to one associate head coach or assistant coach in each membership division who demonstrates commitment to their program, their student-athletes and their head coach; their impact coaching on court; their mentorship and impact on other coaches; and their professional manner and attitude.

    Varel joined the Pioneers from fellow Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference member Hanover College, where she had spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Panthers Women's Basketball program.

    Prior to her arrival in Hanover, Varel spent three years with PricewaterhouseCoopers in St. Louis, Missouri as an Assurance Senior Associate, managing twenty team members. She also served as a team captain for the PwC International Basketball Tournament for a traveling team in Athens, Greece during the summer of 2018.

    Varel is a 2015 graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in Accountancy and later gained her CPA in the Missouri State Board of Accountancy. Following her graduation, Varel gained coaching experience as an assistant women's basketball coach at Columbia High School from 2015 through 2018.

    Loren Bewley is in her tenth season as an assistant coach for the Transylvania women’s basketball team entering the 2023-24 campaign. Bewley, a 2009 Transylvania alumna, received her master of science from Eastern Kentucky University in 2014.

    In her first season with the Transy coaching staff, Bewley was immediately part of a historic season for the Pioneers. The team became the first to go undefeated in regular-season HCAC play and received what was their highest national ranking in school history at 13th. Bewley has been part of the Pioneer women’s basketball steady rise, marked by the program’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16 during the 2018-19 season.

    In the 2021-22 season, Bewley helped lead the Pioneers through an undefeated regular season, 21-0, where they were ranked as high as #2 in the nation in the coaches’ poll. After running away with their fourth straight HCAC Championship, Bewley and her staff guided Transylvania through an unforgettable NCAA Tournament run where they reached the Elite Eight, and concluded the season at 27-1 overall. After the record breaking season, she and her staff were named the 2022 Transylvania Coaching Staff of the Year.

    During her time at Transy as a student, Bewley was a four-year member of the softball team and a three-year member of the women’s basketball program.

    After graduating, she held a number of assistant coaching positions prior to joining the Pioneers, including stints at West Jessamine Middle School, West Jessamine High School and The Lexington School.

    Bewley has also worked as an intern for the Transylvania athletic department and the Lexington Legends front office and is currently a full-time firefighter with the Nicholasville Fire Department.

    She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in exercise science from Transylvania before earning her MS in physical education with a concentration in sports administration from EKU.

  • Extended Day Campers Check-in: Thursday between 10:15am-10:45am at Clive M. Beck Center Lobby
  • All Campers Closing Ceremony: Saturday at 1:30PM. Check-out following at 1:45PM.

  • Overnight Campers Check-in: Saturday between 3pm-4:15pm at Bassett Residence Hall
  • Extended Day Campers Check-in: Saturday at 3:45pm-4:15pm at Clive M. Beck Center Lobby

Overnight complete skills campers check-in at the dorms and extended day campers check-in at the Clive M. Beck Center Lobby on the first day. Please come dressed and ready to play. The first on-court instructional session will take place after overnight campers move their belongings into the dorms.

Housing & Roommates

Campers will reside will reside in the Bassett Residence Hall dorms on campus and stay two per room. If you have a roommate request, and have not already given it to us, please do so as soon as possible. Roommate requests are not guaranteed, if you don't have a roommate request, you will be placed in a room with someone near your age. It will be a great opportunity to meet someone new!

Supervision

The staff live in the dormitories with the campers and participate in evening activities. Drugs, alcohol, and tobacco are strictly prohibited and constitute, along with general misconduct, grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.

Shooting Camp: Extended Day Campers

On the first day of camp, all extended day campers should arrive dressed and ready to play. Drop off and pick up locations will be given out at registration.

Complete Skills Camp: Extended Day Campers

On the first day of camp, all extended day campers should arrive dressed and ready to play. Drop off and pick up locations will be given out at registration.

♦ Extended Day Camper Hours are 9AM-8PM.

Campers Attending Both Sessions

Campers attending both the Shooting Camp and Complete Skills Camp will be supervised and provided activities between check-out and check-in on Saturday (1:30PM-3PM) at no additional fee. It is not required for parents/guardians to attend the Complete Skills Camp check-in on Saturday if their child attended the Shooting Camp.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE FEE?

  • Instruction: Morning and afternoon training sessions
  • Supervision: Campers are supervised by staff during camp hours
  • Camp T-shirt & Prizes: Campers at multi-day camps will receive a Nike Basketball Camps t-shirt. *1-day clinics and fall, winter and spring camps excluded.
  • Basketballs: Basketballs are provided for instruction during camp

INSTRUCTION & FACILITY

  • Ratio: 1:10 staff-to-camper ratio
  • Groupings: Campers are grouped by ability, age, and experience, per the Director's discretion
  • Facility: Indoor courts
  • Medical Protocol: Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

BASKETBALLS

Nike All Court Elite Basketballs can be purchased during registration for $35. Players can choose between a size 6 (28.5", standard girls) or size 7 (29.5", standard boys) ball, which will be passed out on the last day of camp. Please note that it is not required to bring a basketball to camp as they are provided by the staff for camp instruction.

CAMPER EVALUATION

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week. In addition, campers will be evaluated and then split up into smaller groups according to age and ability.

MEDICAL PROTOCOL

Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

COMPANY POLICIES

If you need to cancel for any reason up until 24 hours prior to camp check-in, you will receive a camp credit voucher for tuition fees paid that is good through the following year for any sport and is transferable to any immediate family member. Participants who DO NOT attend their registered session (no-shows for any reason) or who do not contact USSC to cancel at least 24 hours prior to camp check-in will not receive a voucher or refund. Cash refunds are given only if Cancellation Protection was purchased at the time of registration and the cancellation is made before your balance due date.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is not provided by the camp to or from any airports. If you are flying to or from camp, we recommend using an airport shuttle service. Please schedule flights as close as you can to the check-in times on the first day and check-out times on the last day.

Clive M. Beck Center-Transylvania’s Clive M. Beck Center, a 97,000-square foot athletic facility, serves as home to the men’s and women’s basketball team and women’s volleyball team, providing locker rooms, athletic training facilities, a fitness center for strength and conditioning, and seating for 1,200 Transylvania athletic fans. Transylvania's basketball and volleyball facility is located on Fourth and Broadway, across from the William T. Young Campus Center, which houses the Transylvania swimming facility.
