Nike Baseball Coach Brian Jay

In his sixth season as a Fairfield assistant coach, Brian Fay has helped guide the Stags to one of the most successful stretches in school history with three-straight regular season championships, four 30-win seasons, and a program record 39 victories in 2021

In total, the Stags have won 143 games and 68 percent of their contests in three full seasons.

Fay was also a part of the most historic regular season in conference history, helping guide the Stags to a 35-1 record and a .972 winning percentage, the highest in NCAA Division I history.

That success put the Stags in the national spotlight as Fairfield was awarded their first-ever ranking in a national Top-25 poll as they reached No. 23 in Baseball America. The Stags were also in the top-30 in the Baseball Writer’s and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper national polls.

In his three full seasons mentoring the offense, the Stags have a .297 team batting average and a .403 on-base percentage. The Stags have also averaged 7.3 runs per game during those three seasons.

The Stags displayed a new power jolt in 2023, setting the program record with 97 homers, the most in MAAC history. Fairfield also set program single season records in: average (.321), runs scored (519), hits (636), RBI (472), and slugging percentage (.540).

He has also aided in the development of 28 All-MAAC players, including 19 offensive players. Nine of those 19 Stags were named to the conference’s First Team.

Fay was also crucial in the development of three MAAC Players of the Year in Jack Gethings, Mike Caruso, and Charlie Pagliarini. Gethings became the program’s first-ever MAAC Player of the Year after setting a single season record with 88 hits. Caruso saw a 174 point improvement in his batting average during the 2021 season.

Pagliraini had the best offensive season in school history, blasting the single season record with 21 homers and broke the MAAC single season record with 86 RBI. He also broke the school single season record in slugging percentage where he ranked in the top-10 in the country.

Fay was a four year letter winner at Siena and won the MAAC Championship as a junior in 2014, advancing to the NCAA Regionals in the Fort Worth Regional where he helped the Saints win their first-ever NCAA Tournament game by reaching base three times and scoring two runs against Dallas Baptist. For his career, Fay collected 166 hits and drove in 101 runs for the Saints.

After graduating from Siena, Fay stayed in the baseball world in various outlets. He was an assistant baseball coach at Hudson Valley Community College, helping the team to a 25-10 record for a team that finished third in the nation with a .370 batting average.
