Brian Good

Brian Good enters his 16th season as the head men's basketball coach in the 2023-24 season. The program's all-time leader in career wins, Good has compiled a 252-182 record through his first 15 seasons at Wingate, leading the Bulldogs to a pair of SAC Tournament titles and four NCAA Tournament appearances. In his 20 years as an NCAA Division II coach, Good has an overall record of 324-227.

The 2022-23 season saw the Bulldogs go 15-13 overall, with a 10-8 record in SAC play. Jarren Cottingham earned first team All-SAC honors, with Destin Clark picking up third team accolades.

The 2021-22 season saw the Bulldogs pile up 21 wins, going 21-8 overall and 17-7 in the SAC. Cottingham earned first team All-SAC accolades, while also picking up All-Region recognition.

The shortened 2020-21 season saw Wingate go 11-9 overall with a 10-8 SAC mark. Cottingham was a first team All-SAC selection, with Francis Sio earning honorable mention accolades.

The 2019-20 season saw the 'Dogs go 13-15 overall with a 9-13 record in league play. Cottingham earned a spot on the honorable mention All-SAC team for the Bulldogs.

The 2018-19 season saw Wingate go 17-13 overall and 12-8 in league play. The Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals of the SAC Tournament after knocking off Lincoln Memorial in Harrogate in the opening round. Marco Haskins earned All-SAC and All-Region honors for the Bulldogs, with Frankie Johnson earning honorable mention all-conference honors and Jarren Cottingham earning a spot on the All-SAC Freshman team.

Good led the Bulldogs to a 15-15 record in 2017-18, finishing fourth in the SAC standings with an 11-9 mark in league play. Wingate had three players earn honorable mention All-SAC honors.

Good led the Bulldogs to a 20-11 record and their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance during the 2016-17 season, posting a 16-6 SAC record for the second straight year. Wingate earned the at-large bid and 20-win season despite starting the year 3-7 overall and 1-4 in league play. Good has guided the 'Dogs to NCAA Tournament appearances four times in the last six years. The 2016-17 squad was led by All-SAC selections Mike Baez, Keith Griffin and Josh Dominguez. Griffin was one of only two NCAA Division II men's basketball players in the nation to earn a spot on the 2017 Allstate NABC Good Works Team, while he and Kerigan Farley earned NABC Honors Court recognition.

Good led the Bulldogs to a 23-10 record in the 2015-16 season, going 16-6 in the SAC. Wingate advanced to the SAC Tournament championship game, while also earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the NCAA Regional semifinals. Isiah Cureton earned second team All-SAC honors in the 2015-16 season, while Baez earned a spot on the All-SAC Freshman team. In addition, Griffin was named an Academic All-District honoree.

The Bulldogs went 15-14 in the 2014-15 season, going 12-10 in the SAC. Senior guard Ryan Daye earned second team All-SAC honors for the second year in a row.

Good led the Bulldogs to a 14-13 record during the 2013-14 season, with an 11-11 mark in league play. Daye and senior Deion Turman and earned All-SAC honors. During the summer of 2014, Turman and Jeff Parker both signed contracts to play professionally in Europe.

Good led the Bulldogs to a 22-9 record in the 2012-13 season, culminating with Wingate's second consecutive Food Lion SAC Tournament title. The Bulldogs earned their second consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament, while advancing to the NCAA regional semifinals for the second consecutive year.

The Bulldogs finished second in the SAC during the 2012-13 season, going 14-4 in league play. Wingate seniors Paidrick Matilus and Odell Turner earned second team All-SAC honors, while Matilus was named the MVP of the SAC Tournament. Turner finished as the league's all-time leader in career rebounds and offensive rebounds. His classmate Ethan Kincaid is ranked seventh on the league's all-time assists chart. Wingate finished at the top of the league in field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense during conference games, while also leading the SAC in blocks and ranking second in rebounding margin.

Good led the Bulldogs to the 2011-12 SAC Tournament title, which was Wingate's first since the 2006-07 season. The Bulldogs won 11 of their last 13 contests in the 2011-12 season. They were led by first team All-SAC selection Jaime Vaughn. Wingate led the league in blocked shots, thanks to having three players ranked in the top five in the league. Turner finished third in the SAC, followed by Turman in fourth and Parker in fifth. Wingate also had the league leader in three-point shooting in junior guard Eddie Lewis.

Good led the Bulldogs to a 19-10 overall record during the 2010-11 season. Wingate finished second in the South Atlantic Conference regular season and tournament races.

In 2010-11, Turner was named first team All-SAC, while junior guard Vaughn was an All-SAC second team honoree. The Bulldogs led the SAC in team three-point field goal percentage. In 2010-11, Turner earned SAC Freshman of the Year laurels. Matilus and Quan Alexander joined Turner on the SAC All-Freshman team, while Vaughn was selected to the All-SAC second team.

Good brings playing and/or coaching experience in all three NCAA divisions to the table. Prior to taking the Wingate position, Good spent four seasons as head men's basketball coach at Queens University of Charlotte. He led the Royals to a 72-45 overall record, helping Queens make back-to-back NCAA appearances in his final two campaigns. A member of the Conference Carolinas, the Royals posted a 51-29 league slate during Good's tenure.

During the 2007-08 campaign, the Queens University of Charlotte Royals were 21-10 overall. In 2006-07, Queens completed the season 20-10 overall. The Royals lost in the 2007 NCAA Division II East Region quarter-finals to eventual national champion (and fellow league member) Barton College.

In addition to his coaching duties at Queens, Good spent three-and-a-half years as the school's NCAA Compliance Coordinator. On the hardwood, Good has 15 years of head coaching experience. Prior to his arrival in the Queen City, Good was the head men's basketball coach and associate athletic director at Milwaukee School of Engineering.

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) is one of the nation's top engineering schools. Good helped the basketball program make great progress, as he led the Raiders to the 2002-03 Lake Michigan Conference tournament championship and a trip to the NCAA Division III post-season tournament.

Good was an assistant coach at the University of South Dakota for two seasons, guiding the Coyotes to the 1994 Elite Eight. USD won the North Central Regional and the North Central Conference tournament championship to earn the trip to the Elite Eight. During the 1992-93 season, Good was an assistant at Edgewood (Wis.) College. The Eagles captured the Lake Michigan Conference championship during the 1992-93 campaign.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Good has led several teams in international competition. As the head coach for USA Athletes International, Good has led tours to Barbados and Italy. Twice his teams captured the Friendship Games championship in Barbados. Good led his USA Athletes International team to an undefeated record while in Italy.

During his time as a basketball student-athlete at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Good was a four-year letter winner and Big Ten Conference free throw champion. A native of Rossville, Ind., Good received a M.A. degree in Athletic Administration from the University of South Dakota in 1995. He earned a B.S. degree in Agricultural Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1993. Good and his wife Mary have two children: daughter Zoe and son Carter.
