Brooke Eubanks - Cal Berkeley

Brooke Mc Kenzie Callax

Brooke Eubanks is in her seventh season at the helm of the Golden Bears in 2021 after helping Cal improve its win total in each of her first five seasons before the team's 2020 season was shortened to seven games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Eubanks guided the Bears to their first-ever appearance in the semifinals of the Pac-12 Tournament against eventual conference champion USC the last time Cal played a full season in 2019 after winning its first conference tournament game since 2010 and first Pac-12 Tournament game ever with a quarterfinal victory over Arizona State.

The team has also been strong in the classroom under Eubanks and most recently in May of 2020 recorded its fourth consecutive perfect score of 1,000 in its multiyear Academic Progress Rate. Nikki Zacarro followed that later in the month by earning CoSIDA Academic All-District® honors in the Women's At-Large Division and by her selection is automatically a candidate for the organization's Academic All-America® team to be announced in June. Thirteen Cal student-athletes were honored on the Pac-12's All-Academic squad in 2019. Cal has also been an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Honor Squad for each of the first six seasons under Eubanks with the 2020 group scheduled to be announced in July.

On the field in 2020, the Bears barely got going before COVID-19 canceled the remainder of the season after just seven games on March 11 just one day before the Bears were scheduled to play three straight and six of its final 10 contests at home. Cal finished 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the Pac-12. Zaccaro (23 points, 11 assists) and Quinnlyn Mason (16 goals) were the team's points and goals leaders. A balanced scoring attack featured five players with double-digit goals.

Eubanks philosophy of multiple goal scorers was a successful strategy in 2019 with seven Bears scoring at least 10 goals and four with at least 30. Multiple Bears set records in 2019 including Eliza Christman for single-season draw controls with 81 to mark the second consecutive season this record had been set. Jenny Wilkens also set the school records for career ground balls (170) and single-season ground balls (54). As a team, the Bears set a new school mark with 259 draw controls. Christman and Lizabanks Campagna were first-team All-Pac-12 selections while Kristen Swanson was a second-team pick for the second consecutive season. Christmas and Swanson were both also Pac-12 All-Tournament selections.

In 2018, Eubanks guided Meredith Haggerty and Swanson to second-team All-Pac-12 honors, while Christman was named to the Pac-12 All-Tournament team for the first of two straight years. Cal featured 13 different goal scorers led by Swanson's 56 points and 43 goals as Eubanks emphasized a balanced offensive attack. On the defensive end, Elizabeth Koehler set a then school record with 76 draw controls, while Haggerty finished right behind her with 74.

Eubanks led the 2017 Bears into the MPSF Tournament for the first time since 2013 as Haggerty and Jena Fritts garnered first-team and second-team All-MPSF honors, respectively, with Haggerty also garnering a MPSF All-Tournament team selection while Susie Ropp and Wilkens each picked up weekly conference honors during the campaign.

In 2016, Eubanks helped a then-freshman goalie in Wilkens and defender Sara Nolte earn All-MPSF second-team honors. Academically, a program-best 15 Bears were named to the MPSF All-Academic squad.

In her first year as head coach in 2015, Eubanks guided Gaby Christman and Bella Huther to All-MPSF honors while placing 13 Bears on the conference's all-academic squad.

Prior to her arrival at Cal, Eubanks served as an assistant coach at Stanford as the team’s offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator with responsibilities such as in-game play calling, scouting opponents and coordinating practices. With her help, the Cardinal won four MPSF championships, garnered multiple national top-10 rankings, set a school record for the most wins in a season in program history (16, 2011) and produced four MPSF Players of the Year and one MPSF Rookie of the Year. In addition, Stanford earned IWLCA Division I Merit Squad recognition in 2011.

Before her tenure at Stanford, Eubanks was an assistant coach at George Mason for three seasons from 2006-08. During that span, George Mason collected the school record for wins in a season (12, 2008) and garnered the team’s highest national ranking in school history at No. 9. Eubanks served under current Ohio State head coach Amy Bokker at both Stanford and George Mason when Bokker was the head coach at those schools.

As a player, Eubanks participated in three World Cups (2005, 2009, 2013) and won multiple medals as a player for the Canadian Senior National Team from 2003-13. Canada won the silver medal in 2013 with Eubanks serving as team captain. She was second on her team in scoring in the 2009 World Cup, helping the Canadians capture the bronze medal.

Eubanks enjoyed a successful collegiate career at James Madison from 2002-06 where she was a four-year starter and led the squad to three Colonial Athletic Association championships. The Patriots advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in 2004 and 2006. Individually, Eubanks was a second-team All-CAA selection and a member of the CAA All-Tournament team in both 2005 and 206. She was also named to the 2006 Virginia Sports Information Directors' Association All-State squad.

Raised in Englewood, Colo., Eubanks is the daughter of 1980 Pittsburgh Penguin NHL draft pick Steve McKenzie and was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada, while her father was playing minor league hockey there.

Brooke and her husband, Eric, have two daughters, Olive and Johnie.
