Charlie Ginex enters his ninth season as head coach of the Kean men's volleyball program in the 2021-22 school year.

In 2021, Ginex had three players named AVCA All-American (Jared Ray, Ian Capp and Jake Milnazik). Capp became the first three-time selection, while Ray became just the third first team selection in program history. The trio earned AVCA All-East region selections, while being selected to the All-NJAC and All-CVC squads. In addition, Capp was named the CVC Setter of the Year and the NJAC Defensive Player of the Year. Also, Derek Au was tabbed the NJAC Player of the Year.

In 2020, Ginex had three players selected to both the All-NJAC and All-CVC squads with freshman Jared Ray being named to the first team by both organizations. In addition, Ray was named the program's first AVCA All-Region selection, while being tabbed both the NJAC Co-Player and Co-Rookie of the Year.

Recently, Ginex’s teams have earned three consecutive AVCA team academic awards (2018-2020), boasting a GPA of 3.3 or higher each year.

In 2019, Ginex guided the Cougars to its eighth-straight conference title by becoming the inaugural champions of the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Kean won 22 matches, including defeating three of the final four (SUNY New Paltz, Stevens, UC-Santa Cruz) participants during the regular season. Ian Capp and Kamil Garbowski were both named AVCA All-Americans, while Capp was named Player of the Year in both the NJAC and the CVC. Ginex was tabbed Co-Coach of the Year in the NJAC.

Ginex led Kean to its seventh-straight conference title by winning the Continental Volleyball Conference in 2018. The program advanced to the NCAA National Division III Tournament for the seventh straight season, and is just one of two programs in NCAA history to appear in every tournament thus far. The Cougars won a program record 34 matches, while setting a new longest winning streak at 28 matches and while being ranked as high as #4. Kean remained nationally ranked all season long and defeated six ranked opponents, including national semifinalist Dominican University on March 16th. Kean went 12-1 in the CVC and won the regular season title. The Cougars had three All-CVC selections, including Ian Capp being named Setter of the Year and Ginex earning Coach of the Year. The Cougars weren't done receiving accolades as Shayron Taylor and Capp were named AVCA All-Americans.
Following the season, Ginex was a featured speaker at AVCA National Coaches Convention.

Ginex collected his 100th head coaching win in 2017. Kean finished the 2017 season with a 76-match Skyline Conference winning streak, including the postseason.

In 2016, his team picked up an NCAA Tournament victory over Endicott College in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cougars were one of just two programs nationally to eclipse the 30-win mark in 2016 – the other was National Champion SUNY New Paltz.

Ginex worked with the GEVA region of USA Volleyball in 2014-15 to start the boys High Performance program. He coached numerous regional teams that competed in the International USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in 2015. Ginex has been actively involved with USA Volleyball’s high performance program since 2016 as a coach and an evaluator.

In his first season at the helm in 2014, the Cougars finished the season with their highest-ever ranking – No. 9 in the AVCA national poll – and took the national runner-up to five sets on their home floor in the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals. Ginex was named the Skyline Coach of the Year in his debut. Kean ended the season with a 26-8 record, tying the 2013 squad with the best mark in the four-year history of the program. The Cougars completed the first perfect (14-0) regular season in Skyline Conference history and won their third-consecutive Skyline Conference regular season and tournament championships.

The Cougars have been a consistent national power, attaining a national No. 1 ranking, a program-best 34 victories. He has three times been conference coach of the year, including back-to-back nods in 2014 and 2015.

He was named the head coach of the men’s volleyball program in the summer of 2013. He served the previous two years as assistant coach of the Kean men's team, where he helped lead the newborn program to two Skyline Conference Championships and a pair of berths in the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to his arrival at Kean, he was assistant coach at Division I Rutgers-Newark in 2010-11 and coached in the New Jersey High School ranks for 10 years prior. He was named the 2010 Daily Record Girls Volleyball Coach of the Year and the 2008 Easton Express Times Girls Volleyball Coach of the Year. While at the prep level, Ginex turned around both the Hackettstown and Randolph High School programs. He led Hackettstown to a winning season in his first year after taking over a 3-24 squad, and led the school to their first conference title and state tournament victory.

At Randolph, he took over a losing program and led the Rams to a 45-16 record in his two seasons there. Prior to that, he was an assistant for the East Brunswick High School boys team that won two state championships in 2003 and 2004.

In addition, he has directed various camps and clinics through the years, while being a guest coach and speaker at numerous clubs throughout the Tri-State Area.

Ginex earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health and Exercise Science from Rowan University in 2000.
