Chip Tarleton is the Assistant Coach / Recruiting Coordinator at Norfolk State University.

Chip Tarleton joined Norfolk State women’s volleyball coaching staff as an assistant coach in June prior to the 2023 season.

Tarleton comes to Norfolk State with more than 25 years of experience coaching volleyball. He is well known in the Southern California Volleyball Association with strong ties to Los Angeles, California and the greater surrounding area.

Tarleton has coached at various clubs and high schools including the Los Angeles Volleyball Academy, TCA Volleyball Club, Foothill Technology High School, and Newbury Park High School. He also worked as a supervisor for the City of Ventura in the Youth Sports Program Department.

He has worked as USAV High Performance Tryout Evaluator and Coach for USA Volleyball. Tarleton coached teams that won a bronze medal at the USA HP Championship.

Tarleton attended San Jose State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in architectural and urban systems. While at San Jose State, Tarleton played football as a defensive back on a full scholarship.

Coach Chip holds certifications in IMPACT, CAP I, and CAP II, as well as VCAP (Volleyball Conditioning Accreditation Program) and “Character Counts and Positive Coaching” Alliance training all from USA Volleyball.
