Chris Mayer

Coach Mayer is the boys and girls cross country and track and field coach at The Lovett School in Atlanta, Ga. He is a graduate of Dacula High School in Gwinnett County, Ga. and Berry College in Rome, Ga. Chris was coached in high school by Andy Christie and in college by Paul Deaton, both of whom he attributes a lot of his coaching success to. Chris has been a staff coach at SMRC since 2014 and first came to camp for the Coaching Clinic in 2013. He has been a featured speaker twice.

After graduating from Berry in 2011, Chris went home to Gwinnett and joined his HS coach at Mill Creek HS and assisted coaching the boys team. While there he was fortunate enough to experience the programs’ first XC podium finish, 2^nd place, and work closely with the program leading up to the eventual 2012 XC team title. After the beginning of the 2012 season, Coach Mayer took on head coaching duties at Mountain View HS, also in Gwinnett. The stay at Mountain View was brief, and in 2013 he began coaching at The Lovett School in Atlanta.

Since at Lovett he has coached athletes to 14 individual XC and distance track titles, as well as assisted in back to back team titles for both the girls track and XC teams in 2014 and 2015. Under Coach Mayer’s guidance, athletes have reached the Nike Cross Country Nationals(NXN) and Brooks PR Invitational. Several of his athletes have gone on to run for Colleges and Universities at the highest level. Coach Mayer’s greatest goal is to continue to grow the love of the sport and the community; This sport and its people have given him so much, that he hopes to pass that experience to someone else.
