Christy Sherman - Coach

Christy Sherman enters her 19th season as an assistant coach for throwing events at Rose-Hulman in the upcoming 2022-23 year.

Sherman was named the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Men's Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year in 2016 after helping the Fightin' Engineers record one of the most dominating throwing event performances in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference history. Her efforts helped the men's squad score a whopping 85 points during the 2016 HCAC Outdoor Championships.

The men's squad earned three throwing event HCAC championships and had five of eight possible scorers in both the shot put and discus in 2016. Sherman also coached recent throwers Josh Himes and Eric Fiacable to their appearances at the NCAA Division III Track and Field National Championships in 2016 and 2017.

Sherman's efforts helped the Fightin' Engineers lead all NCAA Division III schools in scoring at the 2018 indoor and outdoor conference championships. Rose-Hulman has won 24 consecutive HCAC men's championship meets (13 outdoor, 11 indoor) with Sherman serving as an assistant coach for throwing events.

Most recently, 2019 graduate Eric Fiacable earned All-American honors by finishing 4th nationally in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in 2018. Javelin thrower Nathan Schrader also qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships.

On the women's side, Rose-Hulman has established new school records in every throwing event since Sherman joined the coaching staff.

In her own college career, Sherman earned four All-American honors in the shot put at Indiana State University. She earned three second-place finishes at the NCAA Division I championships and is a member of the Indiana State University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Sherman is employed by the Vigo County School Corporation as a teacher at Deming Elementary School. She is married to husband, John, and they have one son, Jack.
