Coach Profile

Head Coach, Carnegie Mellon University

Dan Rodgers

Dan Rodgers

Dan Rodgers joined the men's golf program as assistant coach in 2014-15 before being named head coach for the 2016-17 season.

Rodgers' tenure began with a roster of seven freshmen and one upperclassmen. That class paved the way for accelerated success after six tournament victories in the first year of the program. The Tartans were introduced to top-level golf from the onset, as the University Athletic Association (UAA) boasted two of the nations best. A freshman at the time, Summer Kitahara placed fifth at the UAA Championships. Kitahara continued to lead the Tartans for four years, finishing second at the UAA tournament her senior year while leading the team to an outstanding fifth-place showing at the NCAA Championships.

The 2016 and 2017 teams won nine tournaments including the TaylorMade Invitational in 2017 which helped set the table for the 2018 season that witnessed the Tartans climb the national rankings. After second-place finishes at the NCAA Preview and the Washington and Lee Generals Invitational, and a third-place finish at NYU's invitational during the fall, Rodgers had the team set for a memorable spring. A steady spring season which included three victories against local universities and a second-place showing against nationally ranked teams at Williams, earned the program its first NCAA bid.

Alongside Kitahara's four All-UAA first-team honors and one All-Region accolade, Rodgers mentored Charlotte Simpson to an All-East Region honor as a freshman in 2018. Following the 2019 season, which saw the Tartans win the prestigious Jekyll Island Invitational, freshman Grace Chen earned the program's second UAA Rookie of the Year honor with three others garnering All-UAA selections. For the second straight season, Rodgers coached a freshman to an All-East Region honor, as Nadia Susanto became the third Tartan to collect the accolade.

Rodgers worked as the Head Golf Professional at the Sewickley Heights Golf Club in Sewickley, Pa. from 2015-16 and was the 1st Assistant Golf Professional from 2009-15. He managed a staff of nearly 20, trained golf operations professionals, supervised tournaments and taught clinics and lessons. Rodgers has also worked at the Wildwood Golf Club in Allison Park, Pa., and Valley Brook Country Club in McMurray, Pa. In 2008, he was elected as a PGA Professional and has been actively involved in tournament participation, including a 20th-place finish on the 2013 TriState PGA point list and a victory at the 2011 TriState PGA Assistants Championship. He also played in the 2011 and 2014 PGA National Championships and 2011 PGA National Assistant Chmapionship.
