David Johnson

Coach David Johnson has joined the Apache Football Staff as the Safeties Coach, bringing with him a highly successful playing career. Johnson is a graduate of South Oak Cliff High School, where he not only excelled in the passing game but also set remarkable school and district records

Most recently, Johnson served as an Offensive Assistant for the 2022 State Championship South Oak Cliff team, further showcasing his expertise and dedication to the sport.

Prior to his coaching career, Johnson held the position of starting QB for Edward Waters University in 2021. During his time there, he once again demonstrated his exceptional skills in the passing game, setting new records for the university. This achievement was made possible under the guidance of the esteemed 4-time MEAC Championship Coach, Brian Jenkins.

Before joining the Edward Waters program, Johnson had the privilege of being recruited and coached by former NFL QB Tarvaris Jackson and XFL QB Coach Shannon Harris at Tennessee State University. During his time there, Johnson not only earned the honor of being named Team Captain but also graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.

In 2019, Johnson made the decision to join the Apache Football team as the starting QB, where he competed for a conference title. Prior to that, he had the opportunity to be a part of the 2017 championship-winning Grambling State football team and also played for the Incarnate Word football team, under the esteemed leadership of legendary Super Bowl Coach Larry Kennan.

Having had the privilege of learning from exceptional coaches throughout his career, Johnson brings a wealth of knowledge in Quarterback play and Offense schematics to the Apaches Secondary. His aim is to make significant contributions to the nation's top defense and help lead the team to a National Championship.
