Dawn Chamberlin

Dawn Chamberlin is currently the Head Field Hockey Coach at Salisbury University.

Dawn Chamberlin is the most successful field hockey coach in Salisbury University history and is one of the all-time greats in Division III. Chamberlin was inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Hall of Fame on January 17, 2009 as one of the six honorees in the Class of 2008.

2018 was another highly successful season for Chamberlin and the Sea Gulls, who earned the program's 21st CAC championship and a 25th consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament. On October 31, 2018, Chamberlin earned her 500th career victory, moving up to 5th all-time in the Division III field hockey coaching record books. In addition, Chamberlin was named CAC Coach of the Year for the 17th time, and Tara Flavin and Jillian Hughes were named CAC Rookie of the Year and CAC Player of the Year, respectively.

In 2017, Chamberlin led the Sea Gulls to a 12-win campaign and the program's 24th consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament. The Sea Gulls had a pair of All-Americans and six players named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference teams, including senior Tressie Windsor being named the CAC's Player of the Year. It marked the first time in league history that a goalkeeper was named the field hockey Player of the Year.

In 2016, Chamberlin led the team back to the national championship weekend, where Salisbury fell in the national semifinals. The Sea Gulls went 18-2, the eighth 18-plus win season for Chamberlin. Salisbury picked up six all-conference picks, including Hannah Miller being named the Player of the Year, which two Sea Gulls were named All-Americans.

During the 2015 season, Salisbury won the Capital Athletic Conference championship for the third consecutive year. Four Sea Gulls were named to the All-Region teams with two on the first team.

In 2014, the Sea Gulls advanced to the national championship weekend for the second-straight year. Salisbury had two players named All-Americans, while seven were named to the All-CAC team following the CAC championship victory as Salisbury went 19-2 overall and 6-0 in CAC play.

The 2013 season saw Salisbury's last trip to the NCAA championship game, finishing the year with a 17-4 record, winning eight games in a row -- including three in overtime -- to advance to the title game, falling 1-0 to Bowdoin College. The Sea Gulls had one All-American, four all-region selections, and eight players named to the All-CAC teams.

Chamberlin earned the 400th win of her career on September 29, 2012 to become just the fifth field hockey coach in NCAA Division III history to reach the milestone. She also became the 12th field hockey coach to win 400 games at any NCAA level.

The Sea Gulls have transformed into a national powerhouse under Chamberlin's guidance as the program became the first in Division III to win three straight national championships (2003-05). Additionally, Chamberlin captured her fourth national title in 2009. Salisbury has advanced to the national semifinal round in 2000, 2002, 2007, 2013, and 2016, and advanced to the championship game in 2013. Salisbury has made 31 NCAA tournament appearances in Chamberlin's tenure, including 25 straight.

Salisbury has dominated the Capital Athletic Conference since it joined the league in 1994. Under the leadership of Chamberlin, the Sea Gulls have won 21 conference titles, including 15 straight from 1995 through 2009. Chamberlin has been honored by her peers as the league's Coach of the Year 17 times, most recently in 2018.

Chamberlin's players have also been recognized nationally during her tenure as she has coached 64 Division III All-Americans and 132 NFHCA All-South Region players. The Sea Gulls were honored with eight-straight CAC Player of the Year awards from 2002-09, and 18 over the past 22 years.

Chamberlin is a 1985 graduate of the University of Iowa, where she was a four-year letterwinner on the highly successful field hockey team. The Hawkeyes won the Big Ten championship outright for three-straight years (1981-83), before sharing the top spot in 1984. That squad finished second in the nation. Chamberlin, Iowa's co-captain as both a junior and senior, was also a member of the national indoor championship team and was selected to the All-Big Ten team during her senior year.

While at Iowa, she also received the Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Academic Award (1982-85) and the Physical Education Academic Achievement Award (1983-85). Chamberlin earned her Master of Education from Salisbury in 1987 and her doctorate from the University of Maryland in 2000.
