Derrick played college basketball at Simpson and went on to become athletic director, then men’s basketball coach at Puget Sound Christian College in Washington.
In 2007 he was hired as the head women’s basketball coach at Simpson. Under his direction, the Lady Red Hawks finished as high as third in the California Pacific Conference. They also advanced to the Cal Pac tournament semi-finals from 2009-2012.
