Doug Wabeke returns for his fifth season at Davenport University as the baseball program's hitting coach. Wabeke also guides the Panthers from the third base line.

As the 2015 Panthers was highlighted with a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament and an NAIA World Series appearance, they finished third in the nation in batting average (.347) and triples (34), fourth in total hits (700) and sixth in runs scored (504) and batted in (427).

The year prior, the Panthers hit .319 with 88 doubles, 10 triples and 10 home runs. Along the way, the Panthers produced 331 RBI and a .405 on-base percentage.

With a wealth of experience in coaching, Wabeke has served as head coach at Grand Valley State during the team’s 1984 GLIAC championship season and then went on to be the assistant coach at Miami University in 1985.

From 1987-2004, Wabeke served as the head coach at Grand Rapids CC guiding the program to 14 Michigan Community College Athletic Association titles, nine Region XII championships and captured four National Junior College Athletic Association national championships. Wabake has also spent time coaching USA Baseball.

A graduate of Central Michigan University, Wabeke played two seasons at GRCC, where he earned All-American honors and played two seasons at Central Michigan earning all-academic honors in both seasons. From 1980-1984, Wabeke played professionally in the San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, and Pittsburgh Pirates organizations.
