Emily Gimpel

Emily Gimpel is the assistant coach for University of Maryland Women's Golf. The Maryland women’s golf team welcomed back former Terrapin golfer Emily Gimpel as assistant coach in the summer of 2018.

Gimpel played for the Terrapins from 2011 through 2014 and most recently, on the professional level. In her time as a Terp, Gimpel helped Maryland to the 2012 NCAA Regionals as a team, served as team captain, and owns a top five scoring average for the program.

“We are thrilled to welcome Emily back to College Park,” head coach Diana Cantu said. “Her love for Maryland and the program is so special. She takes great pride in being a Terp. Having been a student-athlete here, she knows what it takes for our ladies to compete at a high level, while working hard in the classroom as well. On the professional level, she has surrounded herself with good people and has great experiences she can bring to our team.”

Gimpel played on the LPGA’s Symetra Tour since 2015. She earned a top 10 finish in the Pennsylvania Women’s Open in 2017, and had numerous other top 10 finishes on the Eggland’s Best National Women’s Golf Association Tour. Gimpel advanced through Stage 1 of the LPGA’s Qualifying School in 2014, 2015 and 2017 and through to Stage 3 in 2015.

“I am extremely honored and excited to return to the University of Maryland,” Gimpel said. “I want to thank Coach Cantu, Deputy Athletic Director Colleen Sorem, and their team for this wonderful opportunity, and I cannot wait for the season to get started. Coach Cantu is extraordinarily passionate about our student-athletes here at Maryland, and I am looking forward to helping them achieve excellence on and off the golf course with her.”

Gimpel earned her bachelor’s of science degree in kinesiology in 2014.
