Evan Sassano entered his first season as a member of the San Francisco State University men’s soccer coaching staff in 2016. He went to San Francisco State from his alma mater, University of California at Berkeley, where he was a member of the men’s soccer coaching staff since 2013.

Sassano was a member of the staff that reached the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2014, when the Golden Bears finished with a 11-7-1 overall record. In 2015, Cal finished 9-6-2.

Prior to helping out at Cal, Sassano also has been the coach and technical coordinator for the Lamorinda Soccer Club since 2006, who is a member of the US Soccer Developmental Academy. Sassano has help guide Lamorinda to a number one national rank and four-time state cup winner.

The Oakland resident also has been the girls’ head soccer coach at Acalanes High School in Lafayette since 2013. Acalanes was a two-time league champion for the first time in school history.

During the 2013-14 academic year, Sassano was the video coordinator for the Cal Bear’s Men’s Soccer Team when they advanced to the NCAA Elite 8.

Sassano graduated from Cal in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare. He was a starting defender of the Cal Men’s Soccer Team from 2006-09 and during that time the Bears captured two Pac-12 titles. He was a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic Team member.

After graduating from Cal in 2009, he was a tutor at UC Berkeley in psychology, integrated biology, writing and social welfare. He also was the assistant boys’ soccer from 2007-12 at Miramonte High School in Orinda. Sassano then was appointed the boys’ head soccer coach at Coon Rapids High School in Minnesota in 2012. During that time, he was a member of the Minnesota Stars Professional Soccer Team who play in the North American Soccer League. Prior to playing professionally in Minnesota, Sassano played in Germany with FSV Luckenwalde and in Holland with SV Meerssen.
