Glenn Van Straatum

I coached in college and at the professional level. I led the local youth clubs in Oakland/Berkeley and San Lorenzo/Hayward. I impacted the Northern California Soccer Community and the National Soccer landscape in youth soccer through board positions at local and regional levels. I directed several top clubs (East Bay United and Sheriffs Futbol Club) as a respected Academy Director and Coaching Director while affiliating with high-level soccer platforms, including MLSNext, USSoccer Academy, US Club Soccer, Norcal Premier, CYSA, and JLYSSL.

Key Achievements: Under my leadership, we merged two clubs (Bay Oaks and Rockridge) into East Bay United Soccer Club, serving 2,500 players with support from both boards. We also created innovative Training programs and College Support programs to help our players. As Coach, mainly coached older teams on the Boys and Girls side with player production to Pro-Club DA programs, two and four-year Collegiate programs, and/or Professional Clubs

● 02G Gold Academy in 2016-2017 - (combined into top 02 Girls team EBU BO Mavericks Gold)

● 98B Gold - Roadrunners in 2014-2016 (U16/17) - 5 players playing in college

● 95B Gold - BayOaks Mavericks 95 in 2012-2014 - (U17/18) - 5 players playing in college

● 93B Gold -Bay Oaks in 2010-2011 (U15) - 5 players in college and 1 in the pro ranks

● 89B Gold -Bay Oaks 2007-2008 (U17) - 4 players in College - 2 in the pros - MLS

Key Achievements: Mentored players on and off the field to prepare them to be recruited by College Coaches if they had the grades and soccer aptitude to play at their respective colleges. Taught players how to become agents of themselves in the process.

- Coached in the Pros for the California Victory in 2007 (a USL Pro Club that Spanish Club Deportivo Alaves owned)

● Played for University of San Francisco Men’s Soccer, ''78-'82 (and was part of '78 and '80 D1 NCAA Championship teams)

● Played for the Surinam National Team and was captain for the Surinam U23 National team (as an 18-year-old).

● Played in Transvaal, a top club in Surinam, winners of the CONCACAF championship in 1981 and 1973.

Awards

● Inducted in the USF Hall of Fame in 2015 for accomplishments as a student-athlete and beyond

● As a player, was awarded Steve Negoesco Most Inspirational Award for the Student-Athlete for leadership and performance in 1982

● Selected as Student Representative for the Computer Science Faculty for 3 of the 4 years while student-athlete and Computer Science Student Board Positions - Volunteer Roles

● Served six years (2004-2010) on the JLYSSL Youth Soccer League for Oakland, Alameda and Piedmont area Soccer Clubs as Coaching Director

○ Worked together with Peralta to achieve an agreement with JLYSSL for the use of Merritt and College of Alameda Turf Soccer fields, a relationship that is now over a decade in use with mutual benefits

● Served six years (2011-2017) on the Norcal Premier Soccer Board

○ Started a Norcal Premier College Showcase, which has become Northern California's most popular College Showcase, attracting hundreds of college coaches from across the country to recruit top talented players in the league

● Served for ten years (2009-2019) as a coach at MyYute Soccer to help give back to the local youth community in the most significant need of help and helped fundraise to allow them to participate free of charge.
