James Flegel

James Flegel

James Flegel is in his fourth season as head coach for the Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team. Flegel, who was named head coach prior to the 2020 season, was an assistant on the WLC softball staff for 17 years. He also serves the college as Director of Cultural Diversity.

Flegel, who has won 30 games in an abbreviated three seasons as head coach, has coached a pair of players who earned all-conference recognition. Two-time First Team All-NACC selection Lexi Martin earned NFCA Second Team All-Region honors and was the Warriors' second conference Position Player of the Year award winner.

Flegel has been associated with Wisconsin Lutheran's athletics department for many years. He played basketball for the Warriors for four seasons (1990-1993) and helped lead the 1991-1992 squad to a 21-9 overall record.

He graduated from WLC with a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1995 and went on to earn his master's of science degree in educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2000.

Flegel has coached athletics at a variety of levels. After his collegiate playing days, Flegel joined Skip Noon's WLC men's basketball coaching staff as an assistant from 1993-1995 and 2003-2004. He was a school counselor at Brown Deer High School in Brown Deer.

Flegel lives in Germantown with his wife, Theresa. His son, Andrew, graduated from WLC in 2017 and played football for the Warriors.
