Jazmyne Johnson

Jazmyne Johnson is the assistant coach at Norfolk State University.

Jazmyne Johnson begins her first year as an assistant coach with the Norfolk State volleyball program in 2020. She arrived at NSU after a couple of stops in her early coaching career and a playing career at both Mississippi State and Middle Tennessee State.
She spent the 2019 campaign at Harding University, serving as a graduate assistant with the Lady Bisons. They finished 21-11 and advanced to the Great American Conference tournament championship match. Johnson worked with the middle blockers, including second-team All-GAC honoree Libby Hinton and all-conference honorable mention Kelli McKinnon.
In 2018, Johnson assisted the coaching staff at Texas Women’s University, helping the Pioneers to an 18-win season while again working with the middle blockers. She also spent time as a head coach with 360 Volleyball Club in Texas in 2019 and as an assistant at various university summer camps prior to arriving at NSU.
Her playing career started at Middle Tennessee State in 2012. Johnson averaged 1.36 kills and 0.86 blocks her redshirt freshman year in 2013. As a sophomore in 2014, she was named to the Seton Hall Classic All-Tournament Team. She stood third in Conference USA that year in blocks with 1.10 while adding 2.28 kills. She hit .727 in a match against Southern Illinois, the fifth-highest hitting percentage in a match in school history. After just two years at MTSU, she also ranked seventh all-time in total blocks with 174.

She then played for two seasons at Mississippi State from 2015-16. She led the team with 89 blocks her junior year and 136 her senior season. The latter ranks fourth in MSU’s single-season record book. She averaged 1.82 kills and 0.84 blocks as a junior, landing on the Maroon Classic All-Tournament Team. The program finished with a winning record that year, its first in nine years. She posted 1.26 kills and 1.09 blocks her senior year.

A native of DeSoto, Texas, Johnson earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from Mississippi State in December of 2016. She was named to the conference honor roll/commissioner’s list during her time at both schools. She is currently working on her master’s in business administration from Harding.
