Jeff Williams

Associate Head Coach

Williams joined Caroline McCombs' staff as Associate Head Coach in July of 2018. He joins the Seawolves' women's basketball program with more than 30 years of collegiate coaching experience. He has produced seven NCAA Tournament and three WNIT Tournament appearances in his coaching career. Most recently, Williams spent the last eight years as Head Women's Basketball Coach at LaSalle University – where he guided the program to 92 total victories.

"I'm thrilled to announce Jeff Williams as our Associate Head Coach at Stony Brook," McCombs said. "I was fortunate to work alongside Coach Williams while at the University of Pittsburgh where I saw firsthand his ability to connect with players and coaches, his detail to coaching the game of basketball and his elite style of recruiting. We are excited to have someone with Coach Williams' character, as he is a highly respected individual who will equip our players with the tools they need to be successful. We welcome the Williams family to Stony Brook."

Williams was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year at LaSalle in 2016-17, helping the Explorers complete their biggest single-season turnaround in school history. He helped guide the program to four Atlantic 10 postseason victories, advancing to the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic 10 Championships on four separate occasions.

"I'm very excited about joining the Stony Brook Family! I had the opportunity to work with Coach McCombs for over six years at the University of Pittsburgh where we had great success," Williams said. "Caroline has one of the best basketball minds in the country and she's a tireless recruiter. More importantly, she's a person of great character. Her moral compass and influence continues to develop the young women under her tutelage. Something else that was very appealing about this opportunity was the great amount of support that she has from Director of Athletics Shawn Heilbron and his administration. I look forward to helping Coach McCombs bring championships to Stony Brook!"

Prior to joining LaSalle, Williams spent seven seasons at the University of Pittsburgh as Associate Head Women's Basketball Coach from 2003-10. He helped lead the Panthers to five-straight seasons with a postseason appearance, including three NCAA Tournament trips and two Sweet Sixteen showings (2008, 2009).

Williams has also served as an assistant women's basketball coach at Howard (1995-2000) and Georgia Tech (2001-03). Before joining the Howard staff, he served as a men's basketball assistant coach at George Mason (1989-93) and South Carolina State (1987-89).

In total, he has recruited six players that have reached the WNBA, including Pittsburgh All-American and 2009 WNBA All-Rookie Team honoree Shavonte Zellous. Three of his recruiting classes have been ranked in the top 15 nationally.

Williams is married to the former Tamecia McCoy. He has one daughter, Montana, and one son, McCoy Zachary. He graduated from Howard with a degree in therapeutic recreation.
