Jerry Slykhuis (1943-2016)

Jerry Slykhuis

For 40 years, Jerry Slykhuis coached through a philosophy based on fundamental development and individual growth. He instilled values of hard work and dedication and transformed the lives of players from all over the world. After the tragic loss of Jerry, we dedicate this camp season to him, a dear friend and one of Iowa's greatest coaches.

Jerry was the former Cedar Falls and Fort Madison Head Coach, boasting over 500 wins. Coach Slykhuis was inducted into the Iowa High School & Ft. Madison Hall of Fames and named 12 times district & 2 times State Coach of the Year.

Coach Slykhuis coached basketball and golf for 40 years. He was named district and substrate coach of the year 12 times and was named 4A coach of the year twice, once in 1977 and agin in 1987. Jerry was a National High School Athletic Coaches Association finalist in 2008 and National Chairman for Men's basketball for the NHSACA 2009-2012. He also coached the North team in USA basketball festival in 2002, the Iowa select team in 1990-92, and led Fort Madison and Cedar Falls to the State Tournament 7 times.
