John Maupin

John Maupin has served as the head men's and women's golf coach for Lee University for many years and serves as camp co-director for the Nike Junior Golf Camp at Berry College. Maupin became only the third golf coach in Lee’s athletic history in August of 2008, replacing Coach Jack Souther, who retired after the 2008 spring season.

Maupin came to Lee from one of the strongest NAIA golf and academic programs in the south. He was a member of the Berry College squad from 2003-2007 and served as a team captain. He was named to the Dean’s List in 2007 and was selected to the All-Conference and All-Region teams. Over his four year career, Maupin took part in three NAIA National Tournaments.

During his fourteen-year tenure as Lee University head golf coach, Maupin has directed the Lee women’s program to 19 tournament titles and the men’s program to 12 tournament victories. In addition, the past four years have seen the Lady Flames program produce eight NAIA All-Americans, two NCCAA All-Americans, three SSAC Player of the Year winners, 17 First Team All-SSAC members and 11 NAIA Scholar-Athletes and two NCCAA Scholar-Athletes. During the same time period under Maupin’s watch, the men’s program has produced seven NAIA All-Americans, three NCCAA All-Americans, six NAIA Scholar-Athletes, two NCCAA Scholar-Athletes, 13 First Team All-SSAC members, one SSAC Player of the Year and two SSAC Male Student-Athlete of the Year winners.

Maupin’s squads enjoyed national success during the 2008-09 year with the men’s team qualifying for the NAIA National Championships as a team, while Rachel Ingram and Julie Donnestad represented the Lady Flames individually at the NAIA National Championships. At the NAIA National Championships, bot Ingram and Donnestad placed sixth and were named First Team NAIA All-Americans.

2011 was another big success for Maupin and his teams, and one of the most successful seasons in program history. The coach led both the men’s and women’s squads to their first top-10 finishes at the NAIA National Championships. Both teams were also ranked as high as No. 12 in the NAIA.

Maupin’s squads returned to the NAIA Championships in 2013. The Lady Flames dominated the majority of the season, winning five tournaments, including their second consecutive SSAC Championship. The Flames also claimed their second consecutive SSAC title en route to finishing sixth at the NAIA National Tournament, the highest finish in school history.

In 2013-14 both the men's and women's teams claimed the NCCAA National Championship, the first title for either squad in school history. Senior Courtney Shelton would win individual medalist honors on the women's side. After the tournament Maupin was named both men's and women's NCCAA Coach of the Year.

Maupin and his wife Jayne reside in Cleveland. The couple is blessed with a beautiful daughter, Addie.
