My coaching career began at the age of 15 while working as a lifeguard at lakes and pools. Over the years, I have coached swimmers of all ages, from toddlers to individuals over 90 years old. I have successfully guided athletes to compete at Junior Nationals and the USA Open. My coaching experience spans clubs in Iowa, Colorado, Alaska, and Oregon. I firmly believe in focusing on every swimmer, as I am convinced that anyone can excel with the right guidance.
I grew up in the Runnels, Iowa area and was an avid swimmer, competing in AAU and high school events. I qualified for the state meet in the 100 fly and participated in Junior National Qualifier meets in the 1970s. At the age of 39, I competed in the Masters Nationals in the 100 and 200 fly events.
I pursued my college education in Denver and Alaska, primarily focusing on junior college courses in sports and psychology for young athletes. Additionally, I volunteered my time with the Red Cross, providing training across Alaska and Oregon until 2010. I taught various water safety classes and held the position of Instructor Trainer Trainer, the highest level at that time.
I owned and operated the Woodburn Barracudas until 2017 and retired from coaching in 2018. I look forward to my return to coaching at the Nike Swim camp this July!
