Coach Julie Hall Elmhurst University Volleyball

Julie Hall is the Women's Head Volleyball Coach at Elmhurst University.

A Bluejay Backer Hall of Fame inductee, Julie Hall recently completed her 26th year as the head women's volleyball coach at Elmhurst. Hall, the four-time NCAA Division III Midwest Coach of the Year, also serves as assistant athletic director and senior woman administrator at Elmhurst.

In 2014, Hall became the first active head coach in Elmhurst history to be inducted into the Bluejay Backer Hall of Fame.

Hall came to Elmhurst in 1994 when the Bluejays were coming off one of their worst seasons in school history. In just her second season, she had the Bluejays back on track, posting a 21-20 record. Hall captured her first CCIW title in 1998 and her teams have won eight CCIW Volleyball titles in her 20 seasons. She has guided the Bluejays to the NCAA Tournament on 13 occasions, including six straight appearances.

In 2016, Hall guided Elmhurst to the NCAA Tournament for a sixth consecutive year. Hannah Nimrick earned All-America accolades for the Bluejays while Mary Lawrence, Melissa Nava and Amy Schryver earned all-conference accolades. Lawrence and Nimrick were also named to the all-region squad.

In 2014, Hall guided Elmhurst to its fourth straight 30-win season and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Bluejays rallied past Wisconsin-Whitewater in the opening round, before falling to top-ranked Calvin College. Sam Szarmach and Melissa Nava earned all-conference, all-region and All-America accolades while Hannah Nimrick and Jackie Pavilonis were both named to the all-conference and all-region squads.

In 2011, Hall was named the AVCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year after leading Elmhurst to a 31-6 overall record and the team's first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2006. The Bluejays finished the season ranked 19th in the nation after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

In 2005, Hall earned her fourth CCIW Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Bluejays to an impressive 31-10 overall record, and a CCIW Tournament title. The Bluejays also qualified for the NCAA Division III National Tournament for the sixth-straight season. The team was nationally ranked throughout the season, marking the sixth-straight time the team had finished the season ranked in the top-25.

Under Hall’s guidance, her players have earned 22 AVCA All-America honors including Sam Szarmach and Melissa Nava in 2014 and Nimrick in 2015 and 2016. Hall has also coached seven CCIW Player of the Year honorees and 91 all-conference players.

With her first win in the 2002 season, she surpassed Bluejay Backer Hall of Fame Inductee Bill Walton as Elmhurst’s winningest head coach in school history. A four-time NCAA Midwest Region Coach of the Year, Hall has compiled an impressive 575-318 record in 26 seasons.

Prior to coming to Elmhurst, Hall served for 13 years at Piqua (Ohio) High School as head girls' volleyball coach and physical education instructor, beginning in 1981. A member of the Piqua Hall of Fame (only female inductee ever), she was a five-time District Coach of the Year and received the Ohio High School Coaches Association's Achievement Award twice. Her Piqua High teams compiled a record of 248-80 (.756 winning percentage) and won six league championships, advanced to six district championship games, made four regional appearances, and played in the 1992 and 1993 state title games.

Hall has served as a clinician for volleyball camps at Wright State University, Ohio University and Miami University, as well as conducting high school camps throughout the Midwest.

She graduated from Ohio's Miami University with a bachelor's degree in physical education and health, and from the University of Dayton with a master's degree in supervision.
