Jym Walters Nike Lacrosse Camp

Jym Walters has served as the women's lacrosse coach at Saint Vincent since 2012. Walters also serves as an assistant women's tennis coach after previously holding the head coaching position for the program from 2014-2017. Walters has won three Coach of the Year awards, twice in women's lacrosse and once in women's tennis.

As the lacrosse coach, Walters led the women's lacrosse program to five straight appearances in the conference championship game (2013-17). Walters helped the Bearcats to back-to-back conference titles in 2014 and 2015.

Walters and the Bearcats compiled a 12-4 overall record and a 9-2 conference mark during the 2018 season. Under Walters' tutelage, senior Maggie Nelson put together a historic record breaking season that gained national attention. Nelson set six NCAA Division III records during the season: single-season goals (141), single-season points (178), points in a single game (19), career goals (364), goals per game in a season (8.81 per game) and points per game in a season (11.12 per game). With four goals in her final collegiate game in the ORLC Tournament semifinals against W&J, she eclipsed Ashley Hansbury of Curry College as the all-time leading goal scorer in Division III history. Hansbury's record of 362 career goals had stood since the 2011 season. Set an NCAA Division III single-game points record with 19 points (11 goals, 8 assists) against Chatham University on April 11. Nelson earned several awards following the season, as she was named an IWLCA All-West Region performer. She was also voted Offensive Player of the Year by both the ECAC and the ORLC for the second straight season. She was named First Team All-ORLC for a third straight season and fourth time overall and was recognized as a First Team selection by the ECAC for a second straight season. Nelson was also named a Google Cloud Academic All-America At-Large selection by CoSIDA and was selected as Saint Vincent's female representative at the PAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year banquet. In recognition of her stellar season, Nelson was listed in the "Faces In The Crowd" feature in the May 21st issue of Sports Illustrated.

During the 2022 season, Walters led Saint Vincent to 10-8 overall record, and a trip the President's Athletic Conference tournament ... The Bearcats fell in the tournament semi-finals to eventual champion, Washington and Jefferson College ... Walters helped lead five Bearcats to All-PAC honors, with Joey Smith and Kaylee Bandow being named First Team All-PAC, while sophomore's Bridget Doyle and Maggie Edwards were Second Team All-PAC selections, and Emily Taylor was named to the PAC Sportsmanship Team.

In 2017, Walters led the Bearcats to the conference championship game for a fifth straight season. SVC finished with a 12-5 overall record. Nelson finished as the statistical points champion in Division III with 134 points. The total tied for the 12th highest single-season point total in Division III women's lacrosse history. The 134 points was the second most among all NCAA women's lacrosse players, regardless of division, trailing only Kylie Ohlmiller of Division I Stony Brook. Following the conclusion of her junior season, Nelson was named ECAC South Offensive Player of the Year, ORLC Offensive Player of the Year, First-Team All-ECAC South and First Team All-ORLC.

After a slow start in 2016, the Bearcats advanced to the ORLC Championship game. Under his tutelage, sophomore Maggie Nelson was lauded as an All-ECAC South Region First Team and was also named First Team All-ORLC in 2016.

In 2015, Walters and his squad won the inaugural Ohio River Lacrosse Conference title, defeating Thiel College. After winning the title, Walters was voted as the ORLC Coach of the Year for a second straight season. Playing on their home field at Chuck Noll Field, SVC defeated rival Thiel to capture its first PAC Championship in 2014, when Walters also claimed PAC Coach of the Year honors.

Under Walters' guidance, the Bearcats posted three straight seasons with at least 11 victories from 2013 through 2015. Saint Vincent added a 12-win season in 2017.

In his first season at the helm of the tennis program, Coach Walters led the Bearcats to a third place finish at the PAC Tournament in 2014. He saw four of his players finish runner-up in singles play at the 2014 championships. He then led the Bearcat tennis team to a second place regular season finish in the PAC in 2015. For his efforts, Walters earned PAC Coach of the Year honors. Under his guidance, Susie Ellis won PAC Player of the Year honors. The Bearcats finished in sixth place at the 2016 PAC Championships.

Walters enters the 2022 season with a career record of 83-56.

Walters joined the Saint Vincent coaching staff after a very successful tenure at Greater Latrobe High School, where he coached both lacrosse and field hockey.

He graduated from Saint Vincent in 1996 with a degree in Sociology, and then continued his studies at Florida State University, receiving a Masters in Higher Education/Sports Administration.

It was during this time that he got his feet wet in the coaching ranks, serving as an intern for the women’s tennis team at Florida A&M University. He also served as an assistant tennis pro in Orlando, FL before moving back to the Latrobe area and beginning his high school coaching career. While coaching for GLHS, he also served the head coach of the SVC field hockey team prior to taking over the women's lacrosse and tennis programs.

While at Saint Vincent, Jym was a four-year member of the cross country and tennis teams, and also played lacrosse for one season. He also serves as the Saint Vincent College Coordinator of Campus Recreation.
