Coach Hirai played college golf at Winthrop University from 2009-2013. Some of his accomplishments in college golf include participating in two NCAA Division I Regionals as an individual (2012, 2013) and being part of the Big South Conference All Conference Team (2010, 2011, 2013).
After graduation he played amateur golf for a year and made it to US Open Sectionals (2013, 2014) and also played in the Japan Open Championship in 2013. He finished as the second low amateur at the Japan Open.
As a junior golfer Kamito grew up mostly in the state of South Carolina and was ranked in the top 8 as a junior golfer in the state and represented SC in the SC-GA Team Matches, and the CAN-AM Team Matches. For the class of 2009, he was ranked in the top 100.
