Katie Burton

Katie Burton, former coach of Portland State University, completed her eighth season at the helm in 2024.
Since taking over the program in June 2017, Burton has guided the Vikings to a 39-78-16 (.353) overall record and a 23-34-11 (.419) mark in conference play. She ranks as the second-winningest coach in program history.
Under Burton's leadership, the Vikings have made five conference tournament appearances, including three trips to the Big Sky semifinals. She has overseen two of the program's four postseason victories, guiding the Vikings to quarterfinal wins in 2017 and 2023, as well as advancing to the semifinals in 2024 via a penalty kick shootout. In consecutive seasons (2022 and 2023), the Vikings posted a 4-2-2 record in conference play, finishing third in the final Big Sky standings each year.
Over eight seasons, Burton has guided 16 Vikings to All-Big Sky honors, amassing 21 individual awards, including two first-team selections: Sienna Higinbotham (2023, midfielder) and Liv Frazier (2024, defender). Additionally, freshman forward Aliayha Saldana was named the program’s first-ever Big Sky Freshman of the Year in 2024. Led by five weekly honors in 2017, the Vikings have tallied 13 Big Sky Player of the Week honors under Burton.
