Katie Muench
Staff Coach
Katie Muench joined the Clemson Rowing Staff in the Fall of 2018. Muench’s primary roles are working with the 3rd and 4th Varsity boats throughout the year.
Since arriving to Tiger Town, the 3rd Varsity 8+ has found success under Muench’s leadership. At the 2021 ACC Championships, the 3rd Varsity 8+ had their best finish in 5 years at 4th place, narrowly missing the podium. The squad did not race in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. In her first Spring season, Muench guided the 3rd Varsity 8+ to a 6th place finish in the Grand Final at the ACC Championships, which was an improvement from the previous year. The 3rdVarsity 8+ has found success throughout the regular seasons as well during Muench’s time.
Prior to arriving at Clemson, Muench spent two years as a Volunteer Assistant Coach with the Harvard-Radcliffe varsity women’s team from 2016-2018. During that time, she was in charge of the novice squad in the Fall and the 3rd and 4th varsity boats in the Spring. Muench also served as a coach for the Charles River Rowing Camps during her time with the Crimson.
Along with coaching at Radcliffe, Muench also was enrolled in a 1-year fellowship program called the Institute of Rowing Leadership at Community Rowing Inc. during her time in Boston. Muench earned her certificate from the program in the Summer of 2017. Muench was also a coach and boathouse worker at Community Rowing. She served as an assistant coach for the Masters Women’s Team for two seasons, as well as coaching several different rowing classes and teams throughout her time there.
While finishing up her undergraduate degrees, Muench was a student-assistant coach in the Fall of 2015. She worked primarily with the novice walk-on squad before graduating in the Winter of 2015, double majoring in history and psychology. Muench also holds a Master’s Degree in Sports Industry and Management from Georgetown University.
Originally from the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, Muench started rowing in high school at Loyola Academy before being recruited to row at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As a 4-year member of the team, Muench medaled 4 times at the Big Ten Championships and finished twice in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships in 2014 and 2015. She was a 3-year Varsity Letter Winner during her time with the Badgers.
