Keith Rubio

Keith Rubio is the Associate Head Volleyball Coach at New Mexico State University.

Keith Rubio enters his ninth season with the New Mexico State volleyball program after being elevated to associated head coach at the conclusion of the 2016 campaign. He has been essential in recruiting as well as off-season strength and conditioning. Other duties include player development, scouting as well as helping with camps and community events.

New Mexico State went 24-8 during its 2018 campaign, which included a 12-4 record during Western Athletic Conference play. The Aggies claimed the WAC Tournament title, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015.

Savannah Davison was named to the All-WAC Freshman team while Tatyana Battle and Megan Hart received first-team honors. Additionally, the trio gained all-tournament accolades and Hart was named the WAC Tournament MVP.

Rubio helped coach NM State to a 21-8 overall record and a 12-2 record against league opponents in 2017. The associate head coach helped guide the Aggies to their third-straight WAC regular season title. Following the conclusion of the regular season, five players received all-conference awards including Kassandra Tohm as the WAC Player of the Year and Ariadnne Sierra as the WAC Libero of the Year.

With guidance from Rubio, the Aggies posted a 24-7 overall record in 2016. He helped the team to a 13-1 record in conference play which led the team to their second-straight regular season title. Under his leadership, five players were given All-WAC honors with Ariadnne Sierra winning WAC Libero of the Year.

Rubio was crucial in helping the Aggies to a 28-6 record in 2015, and helping NM State to its seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He also helped the team become just the fourth team in WAC history to finished conference play undefeated with a 14-0 record, earning the team’s first WAC Regular Season and Tournament titles since 2013.

In 2014, Rubio helped NM State to a 17-11 record and a second place finish in the WAC with a 10-4 conference record. The Aggies entered the WAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed, but fell to the eventual champions, CSU Bakersfield, in four sets in the semifinal round.

Rubio helped the 2013 team to a 22-11 overall record and a 14-2 conference record. During the season, Rubio assisted in bringing the Aggies to their second Western Athletic Conference title since 2005 when the team joined the conference.

Before coming to NM State in 2011, Rubio spent seven seasons as head coach at Quincy University in Quincy, Ill. He guided the Hawks to 13 wins in 2008, and increased the teams win total in his first three years. He also led the Hawks to a 19-14 record in 2007, their highest win total since 1998.

Rubio served as the assistant head coach of the women's volleyball team at the University of Oregon during the 2002 and 2003 seasons. He worked as the program's recruiting coordinator and camp director. He also worked with the setters, middle hitters and liberos.

Rubio also served as a first assistant at Boise State University from 1998-2001. There he picked up experience with training and teaching the setters, recruiting, scouting, running of summer camps and community relations and also scheduling.

He served as a volunteer assistant at the University of Southern California from 1996 to 1998, where he also took on similar responsibilities.

Rubio graduated from Cal-State Northridge in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology
