Kevin Kelly Smaller

Kevin Kelly is the current Head Field Hockey Coach at Manhattanville College.

The winningest coach in program history, Kevin Kelly completed his 12th season at the helm of the Manhattanville field hockey team in 2019.

The only coach in program history to record four double-digit win totals, Kelly is the program's all-time winningest coach with 102 victories. In addition, the team's three straight 11-win seasons from 2011 to 2013 are the third-most successful three-year stretch in program history and mark only the fourth time ever that a Valiant field hockey program has achieved double-digit wins three years in a row.

2019 was one of the most succesful seasons in program history. Kelly helped guide the Valiants to a program-record 17 victories in their first season as members of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), in addition to a perfect 7-0 record in regular-season NECC play. Kelly's Valiants ended the season on a record 13-game winning streak, ending with the 1-0 victory in the NECC Championship game to earn just the second conference title in program history. Individually, Kelly helped guide spectacular seasons from several of his players, including senior Robin Boot, who earned the third NFHCA All-America honor in program history. She also added NFHCA All-Region, along with fellow senior Ameerah Thomas, and NECC Player of the Year accolades to that as well. Overall, six of Kelly's players earned NECC all-conference honors.

In 2016, Kelly helped guide a small squad to their first MAC Freedom postseason berth since 2011, earning the fourth seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament and also an ECAC Division III Field Hockey Tournament berth. Defender Bregje Smits led four All-Conference honorees and was also named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division III South Atlantic All-Region team after scoring 15 goals on the year.

Kelly helped lead the team to third-straight 11-8 record in 2013, placing the team in a four-way tie for second place in the competitive Freedom Conference. Manhattanville's record-setting attack ranked eighth in Division III by averaging 4.26 goals per game and set new program records with 81 goals, 43 assists and 207 points as a team. Senior Amanda DeChent matched her program and Freedom Conference single-season records with 30 goals and 73 points to earn her second straight NFHCA All-American selection, NFHCA All-South Region first-team honor and Freedom Conference Player of the Year award.

In his fourth season with the Valiants, Kelly delivered Manhattanville a Freedom Conference Tournament appearance for the first time. The team came out of the gates hot, tying the program record for best nine-game start to a season with an 8-1 mark, and saw four Valiants named to the All-Freedom Conference second team, the most All-Conference honorees since the program's first year in the conference in 2003.

Kelly came to Manhattanville from Rye High School, where he served as the head coach of the varsity field hockey team for 30 years. He experienced unparalleled success at the school, posting a career record of 391-56-9 (.867), and built a resume that includes four New York State championships, five regional titles and nearly 20 league championships in addition to three Section 1 Coach of the Year honors. Kelly, whose Rye program was named the "Team of the Decade" by New York State, finished his high school career with the second-highest win total among active New York coaches.
