Laurie Merian

Directing camp this summer is Laurie Merian, Head Women's Lacrosse Coach at Albion College.

Laurie Merian joined the Albion College coaching staff in the fall of 2018 and she led the women's lacrosse program to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship in her first year with the Britons. Merian currently has an overall record of 28-12 at Albion.

Led by six all-MIAA award winners and the MIAA Rookie of the Year, Albion fell one victory shy of matching the single-season school record in Marian's first season.

Prior to Albion, Merian was on the University of Detroit Mercy staff for four years, including the last two as head coach where the team achieved a 16-19 overall record.

The Titans were picked to finish fourth in the Southern Conference preseason poll in 2018, but they won six of their final seven contests, including three victories on the road, to claim a share of the conference championship.

Detroit Mercy broke 11 team records during the 2018 season, including goals (255), goals per game (14.17), assists (113), assists per game (6.28), points (368), points per game (20.44), shots on goal (438) and caused turnovers per game (9.83). Detroit Mercy 21st in the nation in points per game (20.44) and 23rd in NCAA Division I in scoring offense (14.17 goals per game).

The Titans’ 2018 success was validated with nine student-athletes gaining all-conference awards, including the Offensive Player of the Year, the Defensive Player of the Year and the Freshman of the Year awards.

In addition to their success in competition, the Titans were just as focused in the classroom, gaining recognition on the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad. Detroit Mercy was one of 13 Division I squads to have at least eight student-athletes achieve distinction on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.

Detroit Mercy finished the 2017 campaign by winning its last four contests. The Titans defeated Old Dominion University, the defending Atlantic Sun Conference champion, to ignite the winning streak.

A graduate of Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina, Merian is no stranger to the MIAA. She got her start in the coaching profession as head coach at Alma College for three seasons. Hired in 2011 to start the program, she improved the Scots from six wins during the inaugural season in 2012 to 15 victories in 2013 and 13 in 2014. Alma finished second in the MIAA and advanced to the MIAA Tournament championship game in 2013 and 2014.

A four-year letter winner in lacrosse and a two-year letter winner in soccer at Belmont Abbey, she was a three-time all-region award winner in lacrosse. Her lacrosse honors included gaining first team status in the Conference Carolina all four years, as well as earning Freshman of the Year in the conference and being selected to the Rookie All-American Team and Belmont Abbey’s Female Freshman Athlete of the Year. Merian was named the team captain as a junior and senior and was the team MVP as a sophomore.

She married Dan Merian in the summer of 2014. The couple have a son, Kaiden, and a daughter, Ezra.
