Leroy Worley

Director

Leroy Worley - Director

Leroy Worley is entering his fourth year as Head Cross Cross Country/Track & Field Coach at Emory & Henry College and his fifth year overall on the coaching staff. He has also served as the Department's Athletics Minority Advocate, a position created by the NCAA to bring awareness to issues impacting student-athletes from underrepresented populations on campus.

Worley spent the 2019-20 academic year as a volunteer assistant with the Wasps' track & field programs and moves into the head coaching position with a decorated tenure as a high school coach in both cross country and track & field at Freedom and Forest Park High Schools in Woodbridge, Virginia and at Virginia High School in Bristol.

Across his career, Worley has coached two high school All-Americans – including a USATF National Champion in the triple jump; 55 all-state athletes, who won five state championships; 172 all-region performers (35 region champions); and 576 all-district selections, who claimed 94 district titles. His 1998 Virginia High School girls' track & field team won both the Highlands District and Region IV Championships, placing fourth at the VHSL AA State meet.

Worley was a prep standout on the track and continued his career at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, where he earned all-conference and all-district honors in the 400 meter hurdles. He graduated from Southwestern in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education and completed a certification in library science at East Tennessee State University in 2000.
