Martyn Keen
Head Coach Women's Soccer
Martyn Keen, a veteran coach with ties to Maine club and college soccer as well as years of experience at the international level, has been named the next head coach of the two-time defending Little East Conference Champion University of Southern Maine Huskies’ women’s soccer team. University of Southern Maine Director of Athletics Al Bean made the announcement as the Huskies’ ready for the Fall 2024 season at Hannaford Field. Keen officially begins his duties on Monday, July 15, 2024. Keen replaces Seth Benjamin ’01 who left the program in May after six years (five seasons) (2018-19, 2021-2023).
With decades of coaching experience, Keen spent the 2023 season on the sidelines of Hannaford Field with both the men’s and women’s program as an assistant coach. Prior to joining the Huskies’ staff, Keen spent four years as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach with the Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) men’s team, helping guide the program to a GNAC title in 2021. Since 2008, Keen has served as the Director of Coaching at Seacoast United Maine with duties including college placement for athletes, establishing performance metrics, and coaching mentorship. Keen also worked in the Cumberland/North Yarmouth Maine School Administrative District from 1996 through 2006 as an educator and served as the NYA boys’ head coach, leading the team to a State Championship in 2018.
A native of North Wales in the United Kingdom, Keen enjoyed success playing in the Welsh Football League system before pursuing his higher education degrees. Keen earned his bachelor’s degree in Education Studies from the University of Staffordshire (United Kingdom) in 1983, and went on to earn a Master of Science in Sports Coaching from the United States Sports Academy in 2006, and a Certification in Exercise Physiology from the American College of Sports Medicine in 2007.
