Matt Morrison is getting set to begin his 15th season coaching high school football, and his 4th season as the Head Coach Francis Parker School in San Diego. After being hired in the spring of 2017, Coach Morrison has helped guide his Alma-Mater back to prominence, leading the Lancers to both the Pacific League Championship and the CIF Division 5 Championship in 2019, It was the 4th section title in the history of the program and first since 2009.

It was also the Lancers second consecutive trip the CIF Championship game, as in 2018 they finished as runners up in Division 5.

Prior to taking over at Francis Parker in 2017, Coach Morrison’s first year as a head coach came at La Jolla High School, where in 2016, he guided the Vikings to a 7-5 overall record, which was the program’s first winning season in 9 seasons. After finishing as runner’ up in the City Conference, the Vikings would go on to reach the Division 3 quarterfinals in 2016.

Coach Morrison spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach at La Costa Canyon High School. In 2015, the Mavericks finished the year ranked as the 6th best team in all of San Diego County.

In 2013, Coach Morrison worked as the Wide Receivers Coach at The Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii, helping them to their best season in school history. The team captured both league and state championships, finishing with a perfect 11-0 record, and ranked as the #17 team in the nation by Maxpreps.com at the end of the 2013 season. In all, 5 of the Wide Receivers that Coach Morrison worked with went on to play college athletics.

Matt’s coaching career began as an assistant coach at Francis Parker in 2006. After staring as the Lancers quarterbacks coach, he quickly ascended the coaching ranks, being named as the Lancers defensive coordinator in 2008, and then moving over and serving as the offensive coordinator from 2009 – 2012. In Matt’s seven seasons as a Lancer assistant coach, the team played in 5 CIF Championship games, winning titles in 2008 and 2009, and advancing to the 2009 State Championship game.

Coach Morrison’s passion and focus extends far beyond the football field. He prides himself on mentoring young athletes and developing young men and women of character. In 2018, Matt was recognized with the Semper-Fidelis Coaches Award from the United States Marine Corp. The award is given yearly to coaches who model the Marine Corp values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment, and recognizes coaches who exemplify the Marine Corp standard of developing leaders. In each of his 3 seasons as the Head Coach at Francis Parker, the football team has finished with the highest average GPA of all teams in the San Diego Metro region.

A native San Diegan, Matt was a two-time All-Conference and All-section Quarterback at Parker, and went on to play one season at the University of Wisconsin. In addition to working as the Head Football Coach at Parker, Matt is also a full time physical education teacher for grades 6-12.
