Meredith Spencer Blaetz Millersville

Meredith Spencer-Blaetz was named the head field hockey coach at Stevens on April 4, 2016, making her the fourth coach in the history of the program.

In her first season at the helm, the Ducks won nine games in 2016 and earned a bid to the Empire 8 Championship during the postseason. Two Ducks were First-Team All-Empire 8 and All-Region selections.

“We’re thrilled to have Meredith joining us at Stevens,” Director of Athletics Russell Rogers said at the time of her hiring. “She did an outstanding job of articulating the kind of vision we want in place for our field hockey program during the search process. Meredith will undoubtedly prove to be an effective leader in all aspects of the college experience for our student-athletes.”

Spencer-Blaetz came to Stevens after spending the previous two seasons as the assistant coach at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. The Lyons reached the NCAA Tournament both seasons, including the Sweet 16 in 2014.

Spencer-Blaetz assisted with all aspects of the program under head coach Andy Whitcomb, including overseeing the defense, planning practices, and playing an important role in recruiting. Three All-Americans played under Spencer-Blaetz’s tutelage, in addition to numerous ECAC all-starts.

“I’m so excited for both Meredith and for the Stevens student-athletes, those field hockey players will be under the tutelage of someone who knows the game, studies the game, and loves the game,” Whitcomb said at the time of her hiring. “More importantly however, they’ll find in Meredith a wonderful young coach who is caring, introspective, and will push them to be not only the best athletes, but also the best citizens of Stevens.”

“I could not be more proud of one of my former athletes and assistant coaches. The future of the Stevens field hockey team is in very good hands.”

Prior to her time at Mount Holyoke, Spencer-Blaetz served as an assistant for two seasons at fellow Empire 8 Conference institution Washington & Jefferson College, helping the team to back-to-back winning seasons. Spencer-Blaetz coached seven all-conference and three all-region selections during her tenure.

Spencer-Blaetz has a Level I Coaching Certification from USA Field Hockey and coaches the Futures Development Program through USA Field Hockey. She has also taught the sport for Mount Holyoke field hockey camps, Pittsburgh Venom Field Hockey Club, and Revolution Field Hockey Camp.

A native of Amherst, Massachusetts, Spencer-Blaetz graduated from Mount Holyoke in 2011 and finished her M.S. in Exercise and Sports Studies in 2016.
