Ekakitie (Gunderson) brings a wealth of experience and a track record of success.
During her tenure at the University of Iowa, Ekakitie showcased her exceptional skills as a middle blocker, leaving an indelible mark on the program. Not only was she named team captain, but she also shattered records. She holds Iowa’s all-time career attack percentage record with a .294. Ekakitie’s consistency was evident as she appeared in every match (33) and set (115) during the 2015 season, leading the team in attack percentage (.333), blocks (90), and blocks per set average (0.78).
As a junior in 2014, Ekakitie continued to excel, starting every match (31) and standing out as a key player in the lineup. She led the team in total blocks (103) and blocks per set (0.98), setting an Iowa record for blocks in a four-set match with nine against UTSA.
Ekakitie’s collegiate journey began at Wisconsin-Green Bay, where she made an impact in her freshman and sophomore years, demonstrating her potential with 2.59 kills per set, a .283 attack percentage, and leading the team with 96 total blocks in 2013.
