Mike Caruso

Assistant Coach

Mike Caruso - Assistant Coach

Mike Caruso 21' was promoted to the position of Pitching/Catching Coach in the summer of 2023. Caruso, a former catcher for the Stags, was selected the 2021 MAAC Player of the Year after guiding the pitching staff to their best season in school history. He was Fairfield Baseball's Player Development Coach for the spring of 2023 season.

"Mike Caruso has been one of the smartest baseball minds on the field as a player and now in his second year of coaching," Head Coach Bill Currier said upon Caruso's promotion. "We are so fortunate to make him a full-time member of our coaching staff. So many exceptional pitching coaches have evolved from the catcher position and we feel Mike will make an immediate transition and impact with our pitching staff."

Caruso was a five-year member of the Fairfield baseball team, leading the Stags to three 30-win seasons and a pair of MAAC Regular Season titles. His career was highlighted during Fairfield's historic 2021 campaign as he was named the MAAC Player of the Year after leading the conference and finishing in the top-10 in the country with a .532 on-base percentage and a .414 batting average.

As the starting catcher during that historic season, Caruso was hands on with a Fairfield pitching staff that finished second in the NCAA with a 3.14 ERA while leading the entire nation with a 1.09 WHIP. He helped guide a starting rotation that had three All-MAAC honorees including Jake Noviello and Michael Sansone, who set the program single-season record with nine victories apiece. Noviello also finished fourth in the NCAA 1.47 ERA, the lowest by any Fairfield starter in program history.

During his time with the Stags, Caruso caught for three pitchers who would later be either drafted or signed into major league organizations: Austin Pope (Diamondbacks), Trey McLoughlin (Mets), and Sansone (Rays).
