Mike Villafane

Camp Director

Mike Villafane - Camp Director

Mike Villafane is the Head Volleyball Coach at Princeton Day School.

Mike Villafane’s Bio

Now in my 14th year of coaching the sport of volleyball, I am currently the head coach of Princeton Day School’s program. I have worked at the middle school level up through D-III. I started coaching at TCNJ for their women's club team and as an assistant at Colts Neck High School. From there I began coaching both girls and boys varsity and JV volleyball for Monroe, where we won GMCs in 2015, West Windsor-Plainsboro North, STEM Civics, and now at Hunterdon Central and PDS. I also spent three years coaching and recruiting players at Bryn Athyn College, a D-III school in Pennsylvania. I have coached at Princeton Volleyball Club for the last 11 years and have worked with players at all levels of the program. Most recently I am proud to say that my last team has had all players who wanted to play in college be successfully recruited by D-1 and D-III programs. These included Georgetown, St. Francis, and Holy Family! I have NJHSS accreditation, CAP 1 certification through USAV.

MY COACHING PHILOSOPHY

I strongly believe in developing the person as well as the player. Problem solving, process oriented training, and growth mindset are the core of my coaching approach and have proven to have success. I work hard to develop bonds with players to be a better coach in the sport and in their life challenges, like applying to college, combating stigmas of mental health, managing school work and sports, or whatever other challenges come our way. I believe a volleyball program functions most effectively as a community and family.
