Nick Sanchez
Assistant Coach
Nick Sanchez joins the University of San Diego softball program as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026 season, bringing experience from nationally respected programs and a strong foundation in athlete instruction and development. At USD, Sanchez works closely with the Toreros’ catchers while assisting in recruiting, pitching development, and key administrative areas.
Sanchez arrives at USD following a successful season at UC Riverside, where he served as the Highlanders’ pitching coach during the 2025 campaign. Under his guidance, UCR recorded its best Big West Conference start in program history. Sanchez played a pivotal role in the development of Maddie Heinlin, who logged 115 strikeouts across 176.2 innings and earned All-Big West First Team honors.
In addition to his collegiate coaching success, Sanchez brings a teaching-driven approach that translates directly to the camp environment. His background in player instruction emphasizes skill progression, clear communication, and individualized feedback—helping athletes build confidence while mastering fundamentals and advanced concepts. Sanchez is passionate about creating a positive, high-energy learning atmosphere where athletes of all ages can grow on and off the field.
Prior to his time at UC Riverside, Sanchez gained valuable experience at Arizona State, South Carolina, and Athletes Unlimited. While serving as a graduate assistant at South Carolina, he worked closely with the Gamecocks’ pitching staff and utilized advanced technologies such as YakkerTech and Rapsodo to enhance player evaluation and development—tools and concepts he adapts into age-appropriate instruction at camps and clinics.
Sanchez began his collegiate coaching journey at Arizona State, where he spent four years as a student manager for the Sun Devils. During his time in Tempe, he was heavily involved in daily operations, assisting with scouting reports, using Synergy and Dartfish for player development, throwing batting practice, and supporting camps and clinics—experiences that shaped his ability to connect with and instruct young athletes.
A native of San Dimas, California, Sanchez earned his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University in 2024 and later completed his master’s degree in Athletic Coaching at the University of South Carolina.
