University of Indianapolis Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Greg Shaheen announced the hiring of UIndy alum Peyton Romig as the next women's lacrosse head coach for the national-champion-winning program.
One of the greatest players in program history, Romig was instrumental in the Greyhounds' national title run in 2022. The Carthage, N.Y., native captained the '22 club to a 22-1 overall record, culminating in an 11-9 win versus third-ranked East Stroudsburg in the Division II championship game. She amassed 16 draw controls and three points and was later voted the NCAA DII Championship Most Outstanding Player.
"She's a proven winner and we are excited to have her return to further our commitment to excellence, on and off the field," concluded Shaheen.
Romig was a three-time All-America First Team honoree as a student-athlete and was voted the IWLCA DII National Player of the Year.in 2021. She was also twice named the GLVC Midfielder of the Year before going on to set the all-division NCAA record for career draw controls.
Romig continued: "I am excited to be able to work with such great student athletes that are determined to continue the success of the program. They have shown what they are capable of and I look forward to helping them grow as a team and individuals."
After capping her five-year playing career at UIndy, Romig served as an assistant coach at Davenport for one season. Six Panthers claimed All-GLIAC honors in 2023, including a pair of first teamers. Davenport totaled 203 wins in the draw circle, averaging nearly 12 per game.
Romig is a two-time graduate from UIndy, earning her bachelor's degree and master's degree in Exercise Science.
