Randy Halfpap

Randy Halfpap will begin his 20th season as Salisbury University's men's and women's tennis head coach at his alma mater in 2019. He took over the reigns in January 2000 after spending two seasons as the head coach at Pomona-Pitzer College in Claremont, Calif.

In 2015, the Sea Gulls made a run to the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals, earning the No. 2 seed in the CAC tournament. Salisbury had three players named to the All-CAC teams with junior Shanon Gunther leading the way as a first-team pick in singles play. Senior Daniel Albers and Eric Spangler went 17-1 at No. 1 doubles being named second-team All-CAC and selected as alternates for the NCAA championships.

The Sea Gulls had another successful campaign in 2014 and Halfpap was honored by the Capital Athletic Conference for his leadership. Halfpap was honored with Coach of the Year, after leading the men to a 13-5 season, 4-2 in the conference. Since the team-tournament format change in 2006, the Owings, Md., native has led the men to the conference championship match each year. This is Halfpap's fourth time collecting the award, receiving it for the 2001, '04 and '08 seasons.

Salisbury finished 14-10 and 4-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference on the men's side in 2013. the Sea Gulls won at least 14 matches for the sixth time in Halfpap's career and advanced to the conference title match for the seventh time under his watch.

Eleven Sea Gulls earned All-CAC honors, including the first team doubles pair of sophomore Daniel Albers and freshman Eric Spangler, who was also picked as the league's Rookie of the Year, as well.

In 2012, the men's team went 11-12 overall and 5-2 in the CAC and had 10 players named to the All-CAC Second Team.

The 2011 season saw one doubles team named as alternates for the NCAA Doubles Championships while Salisbury finished the year with a team record of 15-8, it marked the sixth season in a row that Salisbury won at least 10 matches. Four players were named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference team, each one earning the honors for both singles and doubles.

In 2010, Halfpap led the Sea Gulls to their fifth straight 10-win season as the Gulls went 14-7. Halfpap sent two players to compete in the NCAA Singles/Doubles Championships at Oberlin College. The men's team had six players garner All-CAC honors as they took 11 spots on the all-conference teams for both singles and doubles play.

The 2009 season was another successful one for Halfpap and the Gulls as the men's team went 14-7 and the women 14-5 against some of the most competitive schools in that nation. Juniors Scott Burtzlaff and Evan Thomas competed in the NCAA Doubles Championships in California and fell to the top doubles pair from No. 1 Washington (Mo.) University. The men's program finished second in the Capital Athletic Conference, but took home 11 All-CAC honors. The women's program also finished second in the CAC and earned seven All-CAC honors.

In 2008, the Salisbury men's tennis team went 17-5, 6-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference. They won an astounding 10 games in a row en route to becoming CAC regular season champions. The maroon and gold eventually finished second at the CAC tournament. Halfpap's effort earned him his third CAC Men's Coach of the Year honor at Salisbury. Salisbury ranked as high as No. 12 in the polls in 2008. There were five players named on the All-CAC first or second team for singles, and two of the Sea Gulls' three doubles teams were named all-conference. For the third time under the tenure of Halfpap, Salisbury had an All-American in senior Brendan Kincaid. He was also named the ITA Senior Player of the Year for the Atlantic South Region. Freshman David Lupinetti was named the 2008 CAC Rookie of the Year.

Halfpap's women's team was also very successful in 2008, as the Sea Gulls went 16-5 overall, 5-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference. Under the tutelage of Halfpap, the young squad broke the school record with 16 wins. The maroon and gold won 11 consecutive matches which propelled them to a conference championship bout with Mary Washington. The entire Sea Gull entire starting lineup recieved All-CAC recognition while junior Anna Marie Kable and sophomore Kelly Fahrner were honored to the All-CAC first team. Halfpap had his No. 1 and No. 3 doubles teams recieved the honor as well.

In 2007, Salisbury completed another solid tennis season as the men's team finished 17-7 overall and the women's team finished 13-8. The two teams combined to go 12-2 in the Capital Athletic Conference. Halfpap guided his young teams to the CAC finals where they both lost to national powerhouse, the University of Mary Washington. Halfpap saw 19 of his players awarded All-CAC honors as well as one who earned the CAC Freshman of the Year award.

In his first season, Halfpap piloted the men's team to a 10-6 overall record and a berth in the NCAA tournament. In his second year, he led the women's team to it's first-ever NCAA tournament berth and its fifth straight winning season. In 2002, the women's team returned to the NCAA tournament and set a new team record with a final 14-4 record. The women won their second straight conference title and made a third straight NCAA appearance in 2003, before adding another NCAA tournament appearance in 2004.

Halfpap began his tenure at Pomona-Pitzer as the assistant head coach in 1997 before assuming the head-coaching duties the following season. He also served as the head women's coach at the Vivian Webb School in Claremont for two years, guiding his squad to a top-five ranking among high-school programs.

Halfpap was a two-year letterman for the Sea Gulls, joining the SU program as a transfer from Charles CountyCommunity College. He won the Capital Athletic Conference singles championship in his two seasons, claiming the title at No. 5 singles in 1996 and No. 3 singles in 1997. Halfpap posted a career singles mark of 23-9 at SU, including 15-6 as a senior in 1997. Halfpap also won the CAC doubles championship in 1997 and finished his career with a 20-14 doubles record. He completed his career with a 43-23 overall combined record. The Sea Gulls won the conference championship during both of his seasons and advanced to the NCAA tournament both years.

A native of Owings, Md, Halfpap graduated from SU in 1997 with a bachelor's degree. He earned his master's in education from Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University in 1999.
