Robbie Fields is in his first season as the Women's Golf Head Coach at Jacksonville State University.

Fields is JSU's first Head Coach for Women's Golf after James Hobbs retired as the head coach for both the women's and men's teams after a 45-year Hall of Fame career with the institution earlier this summer. Already the men's coach, Hobbs started the women's program in 1995, and now hands over the reins to Fields.

"We're excited for Robbie Fields to take over our women's golf program here at Jacksonville State and for him to add to the continued success that we have become accustomed to under Coach Hobbs," JSU Athletics Director Greg Seitz said. "It became evident early on that he was the right person to hand over our women's golf team to, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for our players – on the field and in the classroom."

The new head coach comes from East Carolina, where he has served as the Pirates' Women's Golf Assistant Coach for the past three seasons. He spent one season at Mississippi State before joining the staff at ECU.

"I want to thank Greg Seitz and the entire JSU athletic department for the opportunity to serve JSU and the Jacksonville community as the Head Women's Golf Coach," Fields said. "I would also like to thank CC Buford and everyone at ECU for encouraging and preparing me for this position. We certainly had some fun along the way. I am excited to build on the excellence that Coach Hobbs established and am eager to get to work with our student-athletes!"

While at ECU, Fields helped head coach CC Buford coach a team that won four times and fielded three all-conference players during his three seasons. Kathryn Carson was an All-American Athletic Conference performer in 2022 after conference champion Dorthea Forbrigd and Julie Boysen Hillested earned All-AAC accolades the year prior.

Field also saw his players succeed on a broader scale, with Carson and Riley Hamilton qualifying to compete in the 2021 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.

He is a 2019 graduate of Mississippi State with a degree in Business Administration, Marketing with a concentration in PGA Golf Management and spent his final year in Starkville as a volunteer assistant with the Bulldogs women's golf team.

During that season, he helped MSU reach the Norman Regional, their first regional appearance since 2015. The Bulldogs finished tied for ninth (881, 17-over) narrowly missing making the NCAA Championship and closed out the season ranked No. 44 nationally.

Fields was also part of the MSU program that advanced to the match-play portion (quarterfinals) of the SEC Championship where they were eliminated by No. 11 South Carolina. While in Starkville, Miss., Fields also oversaw all practice sessions utilizing drills, on-course coaching, tournament travel/operations and assisted in recruiting visits.

Prior to his first collegiate coaching position, Fields worked at the late Hank Johnson's School of Golf in Birmingham, Ala., for eight months assisting Hank Johnson, the 2004 PGA Teacher-of-the-Year, with lessons, while providing individual instruction to junior and adult golfers as well as serving as a caddie for students in competitive events.

Fields has also worked as a PGA Golf Management Level 1 and 2 intern at the Sea Island Golf Performance Center (St. Simons Island, Ga.), Crooked Stick Golf Club (Carmel, Ind.) and Northern Texas PGA Section (Dallas, Texas).

The Hartselle, Ala. native, owns several PGA Golf Management certifications and was the recipient of the 2017 PGA Golf Management Joe Assell Leadership and the 2018 PGA Golf Management Dr. S. Roland Jones Student-of-the-Year Awards. He was also a member of the 2018 PGA Jones Cup Team.
