A native of Kelowna British Columbia, Canada, Frandsen is one of Canada's most highly-regarded Olympians. He competed in his third Olympic games in 2012 in London, rowing in the coxless pair with teammate Dave Calder. He and Calder earned a Silver Medal in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Frandsen also competed in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, where he helped the men's eight to a fifth-place finish.

Frandsen has also excelled as a competitor in various boats at six World Championships between 2002 and 2012. In numerous World Cup Regattas from 2004 to 2012, he captured three Gold Medals, two Silver Medal and two Bronze Medals and recorded four other top-five finishes. Frandsen also took home a Gold Medal in 2001 and a Silver Medal in 2002 at the Under-23 World Championships in Austria and Geneva, respectively. While completing his Masters degree at Oxford University, Frandsen was in the Blue Boat that won the tightly contested 2003 Oxford/Cambridge Boat Race.

Frandsen was a standout at California where he was part of three-straight Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) championship men's eight boats from 2000-02. The Golden Bear captain also guided Cal to the three-straight Pac-10 titles in the men's eight and was honored as a First Team All-Pac-10 selection as a senior in 2002.

While at Cal, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at the highly-regarded Haas School of Business in 2002, before earning his Masters at Oxford in 2003.
